Will all HD boxes (even non-branded D* boxes) get an upgrade?

There are obviously HD STB choices out there other than the D* Hughes boxes...

If I went out today and bought a Samsung D* HD STB, would I get an mpeg4 upgrade like it's rumored Hughes people will receive? Or would I be out of luck?

It has never been rumored that only the Hughes brand or even the DirecTV branded boxes (3 factories, not just 1) will be the only ones exchanged if that is what happens; it will be ALL HD boxes. What hasn't been determined (because there is still no OFFICIAL word) is if your length of service will come into play. So if you buy your own HD box and sign up for HD service and then 3 months later they want to upgrade your area will you still get the free exchanges or not; no one knows, except to speculate that if you are inside the top 12 DMAs that maybe you should wait.
