Sorry about that, John. I should Google before I post, not after...

Here's a quote from the linked article:
The Envy 20, Envy 23 and Pavilion 20 will all be available on October 23rd, with the budget Pavilion going for $499 and the two Envys starting at $849 and $1,099, respectively. The Spectre One doesn't arrive until November 14th, but when it does it will cost $1,299.

The Spectre One is projected to be $1299 as you can see from the quote. The other models are not Spectre One, they are cheaper and much different.

Re: Microsoft Surface RT tablet said to come below $399, Surface Pro starting at $500

Ballmer indicated they weren't competing on price, which implies that it will be higher than this.

Is it possible his meaning was misconstrued? Yes, it could be his meaning was that they'd come out with a compelling product at a comparable, rather than a lower price.

Yeah we will see but the prices are not bad if they hold up. But it will be more interesting to see what HP,Dell,Nokia,ASUS,Samsung which will have 3 versions of their slate what kind of prices their hardware will be.. Either way between October and fall of 2013 there going to be allot of new hardware coming out and plenty of choices to choose from.. :)

Another case where HP blew it by shedding too many business units. This unit would be a real winner for both the medical group, and for process control/ factory automation. However, since HP shed both of those operations, the business is going to competitors instead, and HP is left trying to find a market.

I don't see these as general business or personal tablets.
