So far Ive had a chance to play around with its streaming capabilities with HD mpeg2 material from a PC and an Infrant NAS 600 server. Also played the game Motorstorm.

Media streaming: Poor will only play one movie from the Infrant and all that I have on the PC. Video is choppy at times over a gigabit network. My 250 dollar Linkplayer2 royally kicks its A@@. Does Sony know how to buffer anything? This is really dissapointing as I was hoping to ebay the LP2 and use this in its place.

Game play: adequate.

Playstation network: Havent been able to complete the signup process. Cant comunicate with server? Funny Xbox has NO problems.

I sure hope BD movies do better than its other features.

Playstation doesnt play very well with WEP switch your router to WPA .I had the same problem when i first got mine.

WTF!!! Wow you got one huh? Let us know how you like the movies!

I initially used wired with the PS3, but now use wireless and have the wired connection on the HD-DVD player. The only snag was typing in the 50 character password on the PS3 with just the game controller, a pain!

Yea wireless works great for me!!:D:up 50 character password did SUCK!

Uh, guys, what 50 character password? I have had a PS3 since December of last year and 1 , I had no problems hooking up to my internet using cable (yes the wireless route is more tedious to get going - besides wired is faster) and 2nd, I have never entered in a 50 character password to get online. What the heck are you guys doing?

As for media streaming -- that is something I have not played with much. I have over 70 BD movies and I have not watched but about a fourth of them and I also am playing two PS3 games right now. Maybe when the infamous 2.0 firmware shows up one of these days it will improve the media streaming. I have read that it will use the harddrive to swap out memory and perhaps speed things up. We shall see.

Vurbano, pick up a copy of Casino Royal -- this is perhaps the best looking and sounding movie on BD. You will definately enjoy it.

vurb i am surprised. just to note i have no problems streaming download tv shows at resolution 1280*720 thru TVersity on my PS3. The video is never choppy. You may want to try that program if the one you are using is having difficulty. Also I am using a linksys wrt54g and this is over wireless using WEP.

Well 99% of it is 1280x1080i recorded off of D*. Last night I eliminated all of the giga switches in the network and plugged the desktop comp and the PS3 right into my router. Still choppy, dropping frames to keep up. Bitrate too high? File too big?. Doesnt make sense to me, since my LP2 with sigma processor handles it with ease. I really wanted to eliminate a component from my rack but it doesnt look like its going to happen. :( The other strange thing is all of the recordings on my Infrant NAS600 every one of them gives me a network error except for "Alexander" a fairly long movie. The Infrant uses wizid software. Maybe it is something in the encoding of the movies from TYtool. Perhaps every one of them needs to be run through VideoRedo? I just don't have the time to do that to 3 TB full of movies. I am pleased that it would play my data DVD disks with short HD shows like "Dead Like me" in HD recorded from HDnet with no problem. SO that makes me think its definately a network streaming bug.

The "50 character password" is no doubt the WEP password for 128 bit encryption... and yes, that did suck to enter.

I also had some difficulty initially getting my network connection (wireless) set up - made for a pretty frustrating first night with my PS3 - but found the trick online and have had no problems since. There is a setting on your router that you have to change, but now I don't remember what it is...

I've also had problems with video streaming (at least I did the only time I tried it, it's not really a big thing for me because I don't have videos on my laptop, which is the only other device on my network) on an HD file... but the music and pictures work fine, and that's all I use the streaming for.

WOW! That is an accomplishment...
Never heard people managing to do this successfully.
802.11g is 54Mbps on paper, hardly ever more than half of it sustainable in real life.
What is the bitrate of those streams? What is the codec?

BTW, is WEP the best the PS3 can do? Can't it do WPA?
If not, at least turn SSID broadcasting off on the WRT54G and make sure nothing sensitive is shared...

The 50 character password i assume is the 2x entering of the 26char hexidecimal password for the Wireless.. that is of course if you are smart and actually SECURED your network.

One very nice feature of the PS3, if you havnt tried it, is to view pictures off your PC , and choose some of the different slideshow methods... cant remember the name of one of them, but its really cool, your pictures drop onto the screen in various sizes liek "real" photos...

If you are smart, you won't consider WEP to be capable of securing your wireless network. :)
Just to keep the neighbour from stealing your internet access... may be.

You can even download Live-CD's to do it now, no Linux expertise required...

Thanks for the information. Yes, the PS3 can do WPA-PSK and WPA2-PSK (I think I got those acronyms right). I already have SSID broadcasting turned off on my network, but I will look into switching it over to WPA tonight....

WPA2-PSK (Pre-Shared Key) is as good as it gets at the moment (short of using VPN tunnels)
and unless you know the key sequence to activate the nuclear warhead arsenal of the US
and keep it on your PCs at home - nobody will bother...

I did this morning. Viewing it as I type. Looks and sounds very good so far. I am very impressed with the responsiveness and speed of the PS3 loading and playing BD. It is as good as any DVD player I have used.

I use WPA2 with the pre shared key. My key is just 51 characters composed of numbers, symbols, upper and lower case letters. Needless to say hard enough to enter on a keyboard, having to go back and forth on screen keyboard, changing between letters and symbols is a pain. Also it *s the letters after you enter it so impossible to look at and verify.

No, I do not intend on launching missiles from my house, but it was easy at the time to generate a random key, I did not have an idea at the time I would be entering it into a PS3.

Format Perception: DVD vs. HD DVD vs. Blu-ray

BD+ a failure and has been sold off
