Why do we care about DirecTV and the shareholders who don't care about us?

Bottom line is this, if Comcast and other cable companies can provide cable tv and equipment for a mere leasing fee of $3.99 per month without any cost to the customer, then DirecTV can too. They (DirecTV) are not working hard enough to make it happen. Why should anybody shell out $500-$800 to get service to own. It appears DirecTV is trying to cater to the wealthy clientèle. Which is only 20% of the population. This percentage will not sustain DirecTV or any other carrier. So they need to make some changes or they will eventually crash. Think about what you actually spend, reconcile your checkbooks, you are paying more than cable tv.

Um, to lease a FiOS box (HD-DVR) it is 12.99. 9.99 For an HD box. Other companies charge more. Show me a company where you can get a real HD-DVR for 3.99 a month. It sounds like apples to oranges to me...

You pay up front so you don't pay as much later.

I pay less and get more than my buddies on cable; I can add and subtract fairly well and see it every month and in fact the vast majority of my F&F have already switched or are in the process of switching.

I had charter, I admit I was paying 1/3 less with their biggest package including all premiums + HD channels and HD-DVR, but in the end I am getting 2x more channels, more sports, 50+ HD channels than what I had on charter (Charter Cable only added few channels this year where DTV and Dish added over 50+) And sports its been awesome!
PQ In my area its better on DTV than Dishnetwork or Charter Cable.
Yes my cost went up by 30$, but worth every penny.

I just know nobody in my area can offer me what I can get with DirecTV.So it's either pay or do without.;)

Cable in the most part can do it off of the economy of scale(and a local presence in every market), due to the fact they have exclusivity in the markets they serve. They also are probably bound in some way contractually to have no upfront costs when they recieved said exclusivity from the local governments.

The local Cable company where I live charges :
15.99 HD DVR
12.99 HD programming
on top of the fact you need to be in the (Digital package they offer in order to get it)
These are all per month prices, so having D* is cheaper for the HD DVR / HD channels.
Only channel that they DO have that D* doesn't have in HD is Mojo, I don't know the first thing about Mojo so I guess I'm not missing it.

I'd like to know where cable companies are providing you a HD DVR for only $3.99 per month since my experience with Comcast and TimeWarner is they are no where near $3.99/month.

Funny, I think D* is the most expensive HD service you can get. Only 2 things kept me from FIOS. #1 their DVR, #2 I wanted to see if they would match D*'s commitment to HD. They have them killed on price when you take the triple play. Best PQ, unlimited phone, best internet speeds. If they do show the commitment and improve the HD DVR there is no way I will stay past my commitment with D* at these prices. What got me to continue with D* was the free deal they gave me on the HD DVR, but free is a misleading term since their are leasing fees.

You'll never leave, we won't let you.

V just remember since D* has given VA the middle finger the end of 08 I will be in the same line as you getting my FIOS installed. If my HR20's die and they have to be replaced with an HR21 I will not be happy not at all.

Leasing fee? LOL 4.99 and its a additional receiver fee, people like you will never be happy so I would love to see you all move over to dish.
They gave you a receiver and now your crying about 4.99 a month LOL if ford gave you a car, your the type of person that brings it back all mad because they didn’t tell you that to drive it you had to buy your own gas.

Whoa there Milky, It is $5.99 HD DVR fee plus a non refundable $199 bucks for most. Upfront. Plus a 2 year contract and hundreds of dollars in termination fees. How many able compaines collect that money upfront? Or don't allow you to stop service?

. . . . .If they do show the commitment and improve the HD DVR there is no way I will stay past my commitment with D* . . . .

I've asked you this question before in another thread, but you didn't answer it then.

Would you please put the above mentioned promise in writing to all of us and follow through on it at the end of your committment to D*?

Your info is inaccurate the lease fee is $4.99. The $5.99 is for the DVR service for the entire account not $5.99 per DVR. Also in your particular case I don't understand how the $199 upfront is relevent since you yourself say DirecTV gave it to you free.

The idea that any shareholder of any company cares about anyone but themselves, is something I have a hard time believing.

Well lets see, DirecTV has been in business for what 13-14 years. How much is the company worth?
How many satTV companies have you ran? or started up?
I think the have a leg up on the businees and may know just slightly more than you do.
If you don't like it, leave. But don't flatter yourself for a second thinkin that you are going to convince anyone on this board that is happy with what they have verse what they pay for it that they should leave. I for one have had DirecTV for 10 years and as long as they are in business, I will stay with them. I don't care if they "care" about me or not. I don't want to sleep with them. I want them to provide the service I pay for and they have done it for 10 years. There have been bumps along the way but who cares.

Thank you Mkatts for speaking your mind, and verifying they could care less, it's all about money (money = Satan).
