C Band fta satellites?

There is some analog stuff up there still on T6, T5 & G4. Wild feeds (sndicated stuff that they beam up early in the day for affiliates ot grab and reshow at a specific time)

nope that should be it. And since you are C-Band only you wouldnt need the Diseqc switch

I may have used the wrong lingo when I said it looked like the c band stuff would keep me busy, I think I meant to say the dvb fta stuff, but you knew what I meant. I have been finding some college and occasional NBA bball on the satellites you mentioned. Is there much fta college bball stuff when the conference & NCAA bball tourneys get fired up? I won't be ready this year but next year I should be. Before ESPN & ESPN2 went off analog I used to subscribe to those 2 just for the month of March!

:D

LOL watch out this hobby can be addictive ....... especially once you start blindscanning ;)

I used to do a lot of c band analog hunting several years ago before everything started going digital....and I lost my remote.

:(

I'm really getting excited about what's out there now, with all the knowledge and support I've gotten from this forum the ball's in my court now, just got to git 'r done!

most are digital so that DVB box will come in handy :)

....and after reading your thread (and other threads) in the Equip. Reviews forum I'm thinking "that DVB box" will probably be the Visionsat. I was really impressed with the responsiveness of the manufacturer/SatAv to all the bugs and concerns you guys came up with, amazing.

Does that box still ship with 2 remotes or just 1 of the new "improved" models and can I deal directly with SatAv or is there an authorized reseller here on the forum that I should talk to....names? What's the noobz discount....list price x 2?

:D

Call up SatelliteAV and tell 'em we sent ya.
The unit comes with one remote, the newer one.

I watched and waited all last year for a decent PVR to hit the market.
Got my Visionsat about 3rd quarter, after seeing all the positive feedback .
Our reviews here on the forum, are the only ones I would rely on.
Has lived up to the hype, too. - :up

I am too. Most manufacturers only put out a update if there is something DRASTIC that needs to be done (and even then that can be put on the back burner). Satav and Visionsat have a heckuva box right now :)

you can go through satelliteav directly. I have before and they are great people

and yes the noob discount is double the standard price :D

Well, looks like one more night to sleep on it, then tomorrow's trigger-pullin' day. I'll try to get them to quote shipping up front, before they figure out the last leg of the trip to get to our place involves a pack mule led by a one-eyed dog. ;)

Thanks for helping to get me to this point, guys!

Well, my Visionsat/cables/splitter should be on a FedEx truck somewhere about right now, Eugene at SatAv took care of me and didn't even hit me with the double-retail greenhorn charge, nice guy. :)

In preparation for the new arrival I greased my actuator, knocked out a few dents/tears in my mesh dish and pulled my feedhorn cover to see if any critters were holed up in there, looked good but I'm going to need a new feedhorn cover pretty soon, it had a couple of small holes and the collar where it attaches is going south fast. I've been playing with my Toshiba and was able to add a new satellite location (G23 @ 121W) and have been working on reading the Lyngsat charts. Is there a Visionsat manual online that I could download and start thoroughly confusing myself with?

you can also check out thelist too. There will be some updates on it (hopefully soon). Even just on C-Band there is a lot. I proved that today on the 6 footer. And the Visionsat will work with AC-3 which some of the C-Band channels have

I'll take this two fold. Honestly 99% of the manuals for FTA boxes I've seen suck. Its easier to do trial and error (and ask here)..But in the case of the Visionsat, there has been so many updates to the software (which is good..they're getting the bugs out) that the manual may not be 100% up to date. We have a thread on the visionsat complete with my original review (and when there has been updates we post them)

Re: The List...Why is there nothing for 123W G10 and sats west of 127W G13? When I look at Lyngsat it appears there are some fta C-band tv channels listed at 131W, 133W, etc. It does appear that some of the Lyngsat updates are not very current though. I know I can "see" as far west as 137W, and I don't think I hit my "west limit" that is programmed into my Toshiba until about approximately 140W.

Also, can you give me an example of a C-band channel with AC-3 audio? I've read some of the discussion regarding rca and optical outputs and am thinking I may not be able to hear the AC-3 without additional processing, I have no home theatre type equipment.
I should have added a ;) after my  earlier...you were pretty clear about your opinion of manuals in the Visionsat thread. That thread will be a goldmine once I get that box in hand, will take my more specific questions over there. :)

that is being updated. I sent an update for the western satellites so that should be updated soon.

correct. The owner of Lyngsat is in Europe so he relies on updates from members.

137 & 139 have a few things. NASA on 137 is awesome :)

you will need a decoder that decodes the AC-3. I know there is a thread around here for an inexpensive decoder.

we're here to help. The Visionsat is a newer box but a few of us have most of the bugs worked out ;)

DISCLAIMER: The formatting of this post may get me banned, I have never attempted to "wrap" quotes before......

I thought I was missing something real obvious there, guess not.

gotcha.

I still remember when NASA dropped off of analog C-band, spent many hours watching it in the olden days. :(

I found that one earlier, believe it was a headphone unit of some sort that would decode, I just wasn't sure what channels might need that capability on C-band, seems like most I have seen that might, that were fta, were also Ku.

If the "quality" of my questions are any clue you probably have a pretty good idea how much help you and others have been to me, I know I haven't even scratched the surface yet but 3 weeks ago I couldn't have even FOUND the surface!!!!!!!!! :D

I tweaked the multiple quote thing. No biggie. I read through it OK :)

I submitted a C-Band update for 121, 123, 125, 127, 137 for thelist.

Some channels have both a AC-3 and a regular audio feed. Here is a sample screen grab of some of the AC-3 channels on the western satellite front

There are more but I mainly scanned 107 west to 127. Once thelist gets updated you can see those that are AC-3

I'll be watching for the update on The List, hope to actually be USING it next week!

Another scenario.... will the Visionsat control my existing BUD actuator and polarity servo by itself, or will I have to use the old analog receiver no matter what, for some functions? Also, should I take my more specific questions to another forum? I definitely haven't been lacking for answers in this one, just was unsure of what was proper, thanks. :)

It was already updated (I hope :D (Otherwise I did something wrong))

Also to see all the AC3 channels on TheList click this link: TheList_AC3 (Scroll down to see the C-Band channels)

That was quick! Thanks for the link to the AC-3 stuff, that will be helpful. Is the C-band fta stuff I am seeing on Lyngsat for 131W (AMC11), 133W (G15), & 135W (AMC10) obsolete or just didn't make the cut for some reason?

you could get a Vbox to control the big dish with the Visionsat. Otherwise you would have to use the analog box to move the dish and control polarity. The philosophy I've used is if the existing stuff works fine no need in changing it. :)

Either or. You could start new topics for various things or keep them in this thread. When you get the Visionsat you can start a new thread but try to keep those posts in that thread.

Unlike other forums, we're not going to hollar and point fingers if you create a new thread. We're more laid back here :) If we need to merge threads together, that can be done rather quickly :)

Some of the stuff I can't get a good enough signal to register the channel. I only have a 6 foot dish that I ghetto move by hand to the satellites.

What some of us do is scan the satellites and get the info in the receiver then dump it into a program called Channelmaster that allows us to move satellites & channels around and then load that info back in the box. The screenshot above that I posted is Channelmaster. Thats where most of the info from thelist comes from. Some satellites are harder for me to lock on the "smaller" dish.

But checking on Lyngsat and what I know, 131, 133, 135 dont have anything DVB free on there except the California Channel on 133. There is more analog free channels there than digital :)
