NFL 2008-09 Season

I am SO, SO sorry Bill.

I can't believe this really happened to your guy.

This is stunning to me.

The only other thing I can say is that the AFC is wide open.

I appreciate that buddy, but I've come to grips with it. I still think the Patriots will be competitive, but they certainly won't sniff the Super Bowl. If my team can't win the Super Bowl, I would love to see the Browns do it. HD MM, is a great guy, and I can feel his agony when it comes to wanting a championship so bad. I realize that I had those great Celtics championship teams to fall back on, but I've always been a baseball and football fan first. Up until this decade, both the Patriots and especially the Red Sox tormented this region year after year. It would be nice to see a city like Cleveland get to celebrate for once, because before 2001 I could relate.

Jimbo, I want the truth.

Were the Lions REALLY that bad today?

Since Jimbo was more sensible than I was, let me give this a shot. First off, I planned to post earlier this afternoon, but my 3 yr. old son fell in the kitchen, hitting the ceramic floor. Mild concussion for my son, no damage to the floor. This relates to the Lions in that, my boy hit the floor harder than the Lions hit any Falcon. Actually I don't think the Lions defense actually hit anyone!

The amazing thing is that the Falcons were actually a game I thought we could win. Rookie QB, rookie coach, etc... Well the rookie QB's first toss was a 62 yd. TD! Turner runs for 220 yds., and his backup runs for an additional 92 yds. Marinelli talked about "bad tackling", I would call it "no tackling", they barely touched these guys.

Don't let Kitna's numbers fool you either. This guy took only what the Falcons let him have. On one play, he rolled out to his left from the Falcon's 10 yd. line, and could have walked into the end zone backwards, but instead he overthrew a receiver who was double-teamed. When we needed a big play he threw an interception, or threw the ball away. Countless bad decisions. On another drive, he called TO to argue with the receivers coach, and this was a drive we were actually moving the ball on. (We did score, despite the argument.)

The only bright spot I found was Kevin Smith. Again, don't let the numbers fool you, he had 59 yds on 12 carries, 4 additional carries netted him a neg. 11 yds. due to line breakdowns. A star in the making, if he is fortunate enough to ever escape Detroit.

The bottom line is this: the coaching staff did not have this team ready to play, and even if they had, I'm positive we don't have any talent anyhow. It's depressing to see the whole season shot within 10 minutes of the first quarter. If this were my team, I would have left MILLEN and MARINELLI in Atlanta without airfare home.

END THE MILLEN ERROR NOW!

My sympathy's go out to NE fans. Being a MICHIGAN man, I'm naturally a Brady fan. Anyhow it could be worse, you could be Lions fan. God help us in Detroit.

Everybody outside the Falcon's locker room thought the same Sabres. I had them down for what , 6-7 wins (too lazy to look up my own post in the Lions thread). I also had them beating the Bears for two of those wins, and we all know what happened last night. I still don't believe it. So the question now is; if they can't beat the Falcons (everybody's choice as the worst team in the NFL), who can the Lions beat? Like I said earlier, 10 minutes into the season, and it's all ready over for the Lions.

That was a pretty weak effort by the Lions. That long touchdown run that Turner had was the slowest 60 yard run I've ever seen, it was like watching a defensive lineman return a fumble. How they didn't catch him from behind is pathetic.

Well, when the Lions see a runner get thru the line and into the secandary, they all turn and watch to see what it's like to see someone running down field.

Jimbo

I'm sorry Viking fans but 6 yards passing the first half won't get it done....

But, Mike McCarthy screwed up the end of the half not calling the last timeout earlier to take one more crack at a TD. Ended up with no points thanks to the blocked FG.

I must admit it, I picked the wrong year to jump off the Cardinals bandwagon. Nate Burleson, the Seahawks only healthy, experienced receiver, is OUT FOR THE YEAR after suffering a knee injury during yesterday's loss in Buffalo. Deion Branch and Bobby Engram are still at least weeks away from returning from their own serious injuries. I think Arizona wins the NL West by default.

Beating up on the Raiders does not prove that you're a good team any more than beating up on the Lions does. Good thing I've had this game on mute for the most part because these announcers suck. Mike Greenburg is just annoying to listen to and Ditka just keeps repeating inane comments "You like saying that name don't you?"
