NCAA homestretch edition...

1. Watching Texas Tech play is like riding a roller coaster every week.

2. How come they're Connecticut in football, but UConn in basketball?

3. How on earth did Northwestern win seven games? They run one play on offense, the quarterback keeper. Once you figure that out, they're done. Tressel figured it out midway through the second quarter, and that was it.

4. Hey, college basketball season started! Who knew? Duke played Presbyterian Monday...are they going to play all the religions? Can't wait to see them take on L-Ron's crew.

5. I'm not sure if I've ever seen a more boring period of hockey than the first period of the Edmonton/Rangers game Monday night.

6. How bizarre was the ending of Monday Night Football this week?

7. Mike Singletary didn't really apologize to Vernon Davis, did he? Please say it's not so, Mike.

8. When did college football start having games every night of the week except Monday?

9. This is the year for Lebron James to win a championship...I'm feeling it.

10. OK speaking of roller coasters, do we have any fellow enthusiasts out there? Here are my favorites...X at Six Flags Magic Mountain in LA. I've never been on anything like it. The Mouse at Hershey Park. Nitro and El Toro at Six Flags Great Adventure near my house. Top Fuel Dragster and Millenium force, both at Cedar Point in Ohio. (Kingda Ka at Six Flags GA is a copy of Top Fuel, but Dragster is better) Test Track at Epcot.

11. For all those begging for college football playoffs, we already have college football playoffs...it's called the regular season. In no other sport is a regular season loss so devastating.

12. Did anyone watch the Ranger game Monday night where they showed filming of a commercial or a photo shoot or something, with five Rangers in suit and tie? Skates on instead of shoes, on the ice, skating toward the camera together, then stopping and smiling. Lord have mercy, Henrik was in the middle and nobody else came close. I'm surprised the ice didn't melt...

13. What on earth was Colin Powell doing at the Mausoleum yesterday? I know it's the Nassau Veterans Memorial Maosuoleum and it was Veteran's Day, but still...couldn't he go somewhere relevant?

14. Looks like Allen Iverson's extra shots last night came at the expense of Rasheed Wallace's shots. Just sayin...

15. The Miami Heat's new coach is a cutie...

16. How about Kurt Warner? Who saw this coming? When he took over for Leinert he said something about Leinert being able to sit back and learn from one of the greats. Sounded stupid and arrogant at the time, but you know what? It's starting to sound like the truth! Now that he's stopped fumbling evey other play he's making a strong case for league MVP (again), and, whether you want to admit it or not, is starting to edge his way into Hall of Fame discussions. Seriously.

17. My two favorite characters on TV are Hank Moody of Californication, and Matt Saracen of Friday Night Lights. FNL is awesome (no spoilers, I'm still a couple of episodes behind), even with a bunch of actresses who are in their mid-20's playing high school girls. They're very cute, though, if that matters to you guys. Aimee Teegarden is the exception, still cute but actually a teenager. Coach Taylor is another great character..Buddy Gerrity...Landry...great to watch. Please watch, we need to keep this great show on the air!

18. Did Jim Hughson stop calling Canucks games for good? He moved into the top spot for Hockey Night in Canada, but that's basically only Saturday nights. What is he doing the rest of the week?

19. It will take 43 more soccer games at Wembley to match the scoring in the Saints/Chargers game that was played there. I"m surprised the scoreboard was able to go that high.

20. What is Warren Sapp, something like 300 pounds? It's amazing what a great dancer he is.

21. Kirk Herbstreet said something interesting on Mike and Mike today. How about we go back to the old bowl system (Big 10/Pac 10 to the Rose, SEC to the Sugar, etc.), but after those bowls are over (on New Years Day!), look at the BCS standings and hold the national championship game (based on BCS standings) one week later. Could be something that keeps everyone a little bit happy. Hmmm....

22. Wow it's difficult to root for Nick Saban.

23. Back when I had Ranger season tickets, a guy not far from me used to always say the Rangers power play ***** dead goats. I must have heard him say it thousands of times. First I was offended, then I thought it was funny, then I got used to it and barely noticed it anymore. We called him Red because he had red hair. And you know what? At every game this year, Red is probably still there in section 331 saying the Rangers power play ***** dead goats....and he's right.

24. Richard Neer on WFAN last night sobbing about Johan Santana not winning the Cy Young. Please Richard, I know second place again stinks, but now you're just looking for a hollow victory of any kind.

25. OK, I'm going to do you guys a big favor now, something you'll all be thanking me for. I have five older brothers, and family get togethers can sometimes get ridiculous. They're all ultra competitive, they all think they know everything, and they're actually all morons.

Only three of them were at this get together, and somehow they start discussing their favorite actresses, models, whatever. Details are sketchy, but somehow this leads to them almost coming to blows. This is not unusual, they've fought over things far more absurd, but how they could possibly fight over this I'll never know. And two of them are married (with gorgeous wives) and have kids. Apparently, as is normally the case, one argument led to a whole different argument that had nothing to do with models or whatever, and they started to 'go' (their term).

Anyway, once they're separated and we all go back to what we were doing, they apparently are able to come to some sort of agreement over who they like. And here is what you'll thank me for. Denise Milani. Write it down, google it like they did, whatever. She's now probably the wallpaper for all of them, even the two who were out of state...I'm sure they were told.

I was going to mess with you guys and ask my big bros how to send a picture of her to this site and tell you she was me, but I never got around to it. By that time they were arguing about the Steelers/Colts game I think.

Heaven help us on Thanksgiving when all five will be there.

26. Watched Flags of our Fathers last night in honor of Veterans Day. Outstanding movie. If Clint Eastwood had never acted in a movie he would still be a Hollywooc icon based his directing.

27. I know he grew up near Columbus and went to Notre Dame, but I have to admit Brady Quinn is another cutie-pie. Is he still dating or married to AJ Hawk's sister? Does AJ's sister have four more older brothers besides AJ? Poor her.

28. I hate to be on Stephon Marbury's side...ever. But the Knicks are not handling this properly.

29. NJ high school football playoffs start this weekend. Can't decide which game to go to. Leaning toward Middletown South, who is home against New Brunswick. Went to a Middletown South playoff game a few years ago and watched Knowshon Moreno score for them the first five times he touched the ball. Or maybe I'll go to see Shore Regional, home against Metuchen. So many Shore Conference teams in the playoffs to choose from. I LOVE high school football and basketball, especially playoff games.

30. Five older brothers. I can't even begin to tell you how many guys they scared off while I was in high school. I have a recurring nightmare that Henrik is actually going to show at my house for a date, and one (or five) of them is going to pop out of nowhere and threaten Hank that he'll never eat normally again if he touches me.

1. Watching Texas Tech play is like riding a roller coaster every week.

I love watching them play!

2. How come they're Connecticut in football, but UConn in basketball?

LOL!! You're right, but it never dawned on me.

3. How on earth did Northwestern win seven games? They run one play on offense, the quarterback keeper. Once you figure that out, they're done. Tressel figured it out midway through the second quarter, and that was it.

I watched one Northwestern game this year, and after I was wishing I had a root canal instead!

4. Hey, college basketball season started! Who knew? Duke played Presbyterian yesterday...are they going to play all the religions? Can't wait to see them take on L-Ron's crew.

:haha:haha:haha Duke vs. Hubbard U.

5. I'm not sure if I've ever seen a more boring period of hockey than the first period of the Edmonton/Rangers game Monday night.

Didn't see it, but I'll take your word for it.

6. How bizarre was the ending of Monday Night Football this week?

Like someone said (Jimbo???), it was like watching a train-wreck: it was horrific but you couldn't turn away.

7. Mike Singletary didn't really apologize to Vernon Davis, did he? Please say it's not so, Mike.

I thought that was veryyyyy strange also.

8. When did college football start having games every night of the week except Monday?

I THINK it started last year.

9. This is the year for Lebron James to win a championship...I'm feeling it.

Yup, same here. HD MM, I'm telling ya, rest up for that June parade!

10. OK speaking of roller coasters, do we have any fellow enthusiasts out there? Here are my favorites...X at Six Flags Magic Mountain in LA. I've never been on anything like it. Test Track is the bomb!!!! Also, Kraken at Sea World and several rollercoasters at Islands of Adventure!

11. For all those begging for college football playoffs, we already have college football playoffs...it's called the regular season. In no other sport is a regular season loss so devastating.

That's so true!!

LOL!! Sandra, you HAVE to meet this guy! It's fate, I tell ya. :up

13. What on earth was Colin Powell doing at the Mausoleum yesterday? I know it's the Nassau Veterans Memorial Maosuoleum and it was Veteran's Day, but still...couldn't he go somewhere relevant?

LOL..................Colin was at the Mausoleum????

14. Looks like Allen Iverson's extra shots last night came at the expense of Rasheed Wallace's shots. Just sayin...

Meanwhile, Billups has settled down the Nuggets. ;)

15. The Miami Heat's new coach is a cutie...

Again, I'll take your word for that. :D

16. How about Kurt Warner? Who saw this coming? When he took over for Leinert he said something about Leinert being able to sit back and learn from one of the greats. I just don't see Warner in the HOF. JMO

I've started watching this year, and I'm hooked. :up

LOL............was there a short curcuit?

20. What is Warren Sapp, something like 300 pounds? It's amazing what a great dancer he is.

It's AMAZING how agile he is carrying that mass!

Hmmm....

Sounds GREAT to me!! :up

22. Wow it's difficult to root for Nick Saban.

Sorry, but IMO, he's pond scum (along the lines of Rick Pitino)

Wow......tough crowd! :D

24. Richard Neer on WFAN last night sobbing about Johan Santana not winning the Cy Young. Please Richard, I know second place again stinks, but now you're just looking for a hollow victory of any kind.

I really thought Lincecum was a solid choice.

25. OK, I'm going to do you guys a big favor now, something you'll all be thanking me for. I have five older brothers, and family get togethers can sometimes get ridiculous. They're all ultra competitive, they all think they know everything, and they're actually all morons.

LOL, your family sounds eerily similar to mine, and they're ALL coming to my house for Turkey Day! Umm, pass the Grey Goose please! ;)

26. Watched Flags of our Fathers last night in honor of Veterans Day. Outstanding movie. If Clint Eastwood had never acted in a movie he would still be a Hollywooc icon based his directing.

Clint Eastwood is DA MAN!!!!! :up

Sandra

GREAT stuff as ALWAYS, Sandra! :up :)

3. How on earth did Northwestern win seven games? They run one play on offense, the quarterback keeper. Once you figure that out, they're done. Tressel figured it out midway through the second quarter, and that was it.
Two words- cupcake schedule.

5. I'm not sure if I've ever seen a more boring period of hockey than the first period of the Edmonton/Rangers game Monday night.
I lived through the dead-puck era. I have seen far duller games.

7. Mike Singletary didn't really apologize to Vernon Davis, did he? Please say it's not so, Mike.
I still don't know how this guy was drafted so high. Other than Brent Jones, the 49ers have been terrible when it comes to tight ends.

11. For all those begging for college football playoffs, we already have college football playoffs...it's called the regular season. In no other sport is a regular season loss so devastating.
I don't want a playoff either. I DON'T WANT A THREE-LOSS CHAMPION!

I'm surprised you didn't faint.

15. The Miami Heat's new coach is a cutie...
NOW I know why Miami was so bad last year- their coach was too ugly!

Seriously.
Yes, he's a HOF. He's got the big numbers AND a Super Bowl, unlike Marino and Kelly.

It will take 43 more soccer games at Wembley to match the scoring in the Saints/Chargers game that was played there.
I have seen entire World Cups have fewer goals scored than the 47 points your Jets scored on the worthless Rams. Hell, you could have scored a TD.

24. Richard Neer on WFAN last night sobbing about Johan Santana not winning the Cy Young. Please Richard, I know second place again stinks, but now you're just looking for a hollow victory of any kind.
Sandy, when Mark Messier finished runner-ip to Mario Lemieux for the 1995-96 Hart Trophy, you probably didn't care at all.

4. Hey, college basketball season started! Who knew? Duke played Presbyterian Monday...are they going to play all the religions? Can't wait to see them take on L-Ron's crew.

Actually Presbyterian is my alma mater. They are only in their 2nd season at Div I. Seeing them lose to dook was....not fun :(. But they are brave. Presbyterian only had 4 home games last year. They'll play anyone. So I guess it's progress that they are now on the big stage, sort of, and that they are getting recognized.

16. How about Kurt Warner? Who saw this coming? When he took over for Leinert he said something about Leinert being able to sit back and learn from one of the greats. Sounded stupid and arrogant at the time, but you know what? It's starting to sound like the truth! Seriously.
Sabresrule: Yes, he's a HOF. He's got the big numbers AND a Super Bowl, unlike Marino and Kelly.

Does that mean you think Warner is better than Marino?

Does that mean you think Warner is better than Marino?

No, but he reminds me of him in some ways:

1. In their greatest year ever (1984 for Marino, 1999 for Warner), both made a Super Bowl.

2. Both are capable of elevating their wideouts into superstars (Clayton Duper, Holt, Bruce, Hakim, Boldin, Fitzgerald)

No, but he reminds me of him in some ways:

1. In their greatest year ever (1984 for Marino, 1999 for Warner), both made a Super Bowl.

Good point. :up

2. Both are capable of elevating their wideouts into superstars (Clayton Duper, Holt, Bruce, Hakim, Boldin, Fitzgerald)

Good point, BUT I could argue that Clayton/Duper didn't have anywhere near the talent of Boldin/Fitzgerald and especially Bruce/Holt.

IMO, Marino made Clayton, Duper, Vigorito, Cefalo, Hardy, Rose, etc.

11. For all those begging for college football playoffs, we already have college football playoffs...it's called the regular season. In no other sport is a regular season loss so devastating.
I used to be a playoff proponent, but I'm moving away from that. I still would like to see a +1, but not a 8 or 16 game playoff. Does anyone really think the Giants were the best team in football last year? In college you have to be good the entire season, not just "peak" at the right time.

4. Hey, college basketball season started! Who knew? Duke played Presbyterian Monday...are they going to play all the religions? Can't wait to see them take on L-Ron's crew.

I can't get into college basketball until February.

8. When did college football start having games every night of the week except Monday?

I don't know, but I love it. Everything except the scrolling text messages that is.

9. This is the year for Lebron James to win a championship...I'm feeling it.

Wow! All this Satellite Guy/Gals Karma is awesome! First Bill, now Sandra picking the Cavs this year! I hope you're right!

10. OK speaking of roller coasters, do we have any fellow enthusiasts out there? Here are my favorites...X at Six Flags Magic Mountain in LA. I've never been on anything like it. (Kingda Ka at Six Flags GA is a copy of Top Fuel, but Dragster is better) Test Track at Epcot.

I've road the Top Fuel Dragster and Millennium Force. My old Lady made us stand in line to wait for a front seat on the Top Thrill Dragster during the first year it opened. All I can say is, Wow! Near orgasmic! ;)

16. How about Kurt Warner? Who saw this coming? When he took over for Leinert he said something about Leinert being able to sit back and learn from one of the greats. I still don't get the gloves. How do you throw and grip the ball with gloves on? I think that's going to haunt him if he has to play in the cold down the stretch.

17. My two favorite characters on TV are Hank Moody of Californication, and Matt Saracen of Friday Night Lights. Completely agree with you on FNL. Best show on TV right now. I also think Julie Taylor has given Lyla Garrity a run for her money in hottness this season. Wa-wa-wee-wah! And Sandra, catch up on this show immediately! It's getting ultra instense! BTW, Coach Taylor and Principal Taylor completely make the show. They are so believeable as husband and wife. Without them, the show wouldn't be nearly as good.

Hmmm....

I always considered Kirk an insightful guy and respected his commentary. He will be around for a while.

22. Wow it's difficult to root for Nick Saban.

Even as a fellow Kent St. alumn, I will have to agree.

25. OK, I'm going to do you guys a big favor now, something you'll all be thanking me for. I have five older brothers, and family get togethers can sometimes get ridiculous. They're all ultra competitive, they all think they know everything, and they're actually all morons.

Denise has quite the whoppers!

26. Watched Flags of our Fathers last night in honor of Veterans Day. Outstanding movie. If Clint Eastwood had never acted in a movie he would still be a Hollywooc icon based his directing.

Clint is great. Never seen Flags, but I do love all the old Westerns he's done. The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly is probably my favorite.

27. I know he grew up near Columbus and went to Notre Dame, but I have to admit Brady Quinn is another cutie-pie. Is he still dating or married to AJ Hawk's sister? Does AJ's sister have four more older brothers besides AJ? Poor her.

You got it mixed up. AJ Hawk is married to Brady Quinn's sister. Not the other way around. Not sure about BQ's status, although he's deffinately not married. I tell you one thing though, as football crazy as this town is, I can see Brady making LeBron look like a C-List celebrity in a few years.

Here's Brady's sis (AJ's wife).... Remember when OSU played Notre Dame? She wore a jersey made with half from each player.

I have two younger sisters and I'm the same way. That's what we're supposed to do. Protect our younger sister.

4. Hey, college basketball season started! Who knew? Duke played Presbyterian Monday...are they going to play all the religions? Can't wait to see them take on L-Ron's crew.

I can't get into college basketball until February.

See, I agree with this statement, and there-in lies the problem with college basketball...all that matters is the playoffs. It's fun to get into regular season Duke-UNC matchups, and all the other college rivalries, but the results are not life-changing like they are in college football. How important would a Florida- Alabama game be if you knew both were going to qualify for an 8 or 16 team playoff field?

Ooh, good point. While standing in line at Top Fuel Dragster, you can see the cars returning to the loading platform. Those in the front seat look like they've had a life-altering experience!

16. How about Kurt Warner? Who saw this coming? When he took over for Leinert he said something about Leinert being able to sit back and learn from one of the greats. Sounded stupid and arrogant at the time, but you know what? It's starting to sound like the truth! Seriously.

I still don't get the gloves. How do you throw and grip the ball with gloves on? I think that's going to haunt him if he has to play in the cold down the stretch.

If the gloves are really what's making him not fumble the ball, he had best keep them on...

17. My two favorite characters on TV are Hank Moody of Californication, and Matt Saracen of Friday Night Lights. FNL is awesome (no spoilers, I'm still a couple of episodes behind), even with a bunch of actresses who are in their mid-20's playing high school girls. So true. I find myself rewinding and watching again so many of their conversations. And Aimee Teegarden is cute.

27. I know he grew up near Columbus and went to Notre Dame, but I have to admit Brady Quinn is another cutie-pie. Is he still dating or married to AJ Hawk's sister? Does AJ's sister have four more older brothers besides AJ? Poor her.

21245019.jpg

Oh my, I'm so stupid! This is not a good picture of her, however...I remember thinking she was pretty when they showed her on TV. Perhaps the picture just didn't come out well. (or perhaps it's not a good idea for any girl to have a picture so close to a picture of Denise Milani!)

I have two younger sisters and I'm the same way. That's what we're supposed to do. Protect our younger sister.

Yeah, I guess. But it's like living with a bunch of Chuck Liddell wanna-be's. Actually, it IS living with a bunch of Chuck Liddell wanna-be's.

You should care about the regular season if you have any interest in seeing your team win the NC. Since the NCAA began seeding teams in the tournament in 1979 only 4 times have teams with lower than a 3 seed won the NC. The NCAA Tournament is a great event for all the upsets and cinderellas, but all those teams like Davidson, George Mason and Valpo eventually lose. If you want to win the the whole thing you need a very high seed. How do you get one? By winning lots of games during the regular season.

Another rollercoaster that is a MUST for any RC lover is the "Manhattan Express" at the New York-New York hotel on the Vegas Strip.

The ride starts inside the hotel and then comes outside at 60+ MPH, with a mind-boggling corkscrew right over the Strip! It's a MUST do at night! :up

Or do what 1983 NC State and 1985 Villanova did; sell their souls to Satan.

I'll take college basketball anytime....anywhere.

I love the Nov/Dec portion of the college basketball season, because you get a lot of out of conference big games via tournaments such as the Preseason NIT, Maui Invitational, Great Alaska Shootout and the conference challenges.

January and February, at least for the most part, is all about the conference schedules, which is great and all, but the out of conference games reminds me more of March Madness.

It's too bad the big-time teams schedule cupcake opponents.
