That is MAJOR...but that is within 6 months to a year....I am talking 2 weeks..
Sorry Salsa, but I'm sure you guys have conventions in Miami that are bigger than any of those events. Tennis? Major snooze. Golf? This ain't the Ryder Cup, or the US Open. Basketball? We got the "Final Four". Baseball? Nobody even goes to the Marlin's games, who's going to these match ups?

Yes we do have huge conventions that could outdrawn most, but not when ALL are going AT THE SAME TIME. The local news media has been reporting exactly what South Florida tourism needed, MOST of ALL hotels in the Miami-Dade County area completely booked.
Tennis.... is HUGE here because the Sony Ericsson is a MAJOR event in Miami because of the South American influenzes in the sport and Latin America.
Golf...When you have Tiger and the Top 5 players are in town...sorry, it IS the same as the Ryder Open.
As much I love the the Final Four, I am happy with the 1st or 2nd round of the NCAA Tournament....besides, better chances of major upsets in those 1st two rounds than the Final Four.
Baseball? We were talking Marlins, we are talking team representing their countries. As soon as the schedule is officially announced, those games WILL sell out....ESPECIALLY if Team USA, Puerto Rico and Venezuela are playing and the huge Puerto Rican and Venezuelan population here in South Florida.

I've never heard of the "Sony Ericson" tennis tournament. I think I'd rather see the Circus if Ringling Bros and Barnum & Bailey came to town. Certainly not on par with say, the Super Bowl as Detroit hosted.

The "CA Championship" is part of the World Golf Championships. Akron, OH hosts a similar championship called the "Bridgestone Invitational." It's a fairly decent tourney, but it is NOT on par with the Ryder Cup.

Floridians do care about baseball....but we will not get into that argument again.
But when it comes to baseball teams representing THEIR COUNTRY, ala, Venezuela and Puerto Rico....THAT is another story. Have you even seen any of the WBC games from Puerto Rico?
IF you have and you know any of the rich beisbol..or ANY SPORT where your country is being represented... and how latinos feel when their country is being represented....you would think differently.

Here in Tucson, we had Tiger about two weeks ago and...at the same time...Bobby Vinton was playing at the Indian Casino. That's gotta count for something...
Big for Golf... I'd love to see data on how much tourism there is related to Golf tournaments. I don't think many of the events you're talking about compare to things like the large conventions we have in Vegas.

It's not fair really to even compare Vegas to other places though, we're built for this stuff... but you didn't exclude us in the OP so pfft

I've been to Vegas 8 times now, and I'm not even that big of a gambler (I like a little blackjack and a little video poker).
LOVE that place!! My favorite hotel that I stayed in was probably Mandalay Bay (wife and I stayed there in 1999 when it was only open for a few months). :up

I have been for the CES a couple of years back and and the AVN Awards a couple of times. I LOVE to play golf in Vegas!
Those won't be until June....I think he was referring to events going on this month!!!...
