MLB 2009 Season

Going back to the Strasburg signing....I am in awe of the kinda money #1 picks in baseball get these days. Especially for a guy that will more than likely not make a Major League roster for more than likely 3 years....maybe even more.

The only league that get's it right when it comes to signing rookies is the NBA. In the NBA, there's a set entry scale for rookies. Prove that your worth it and you can sign for a higher contract. Makes perfect sense. The MLB and Football have a jacked up system. No where else on earth will you find less proven and less deserving employees earn more money than highly proven employees. (ex. Tom Brady earns less than Matthew Stafford).

But ONLY in MLB and the NHL do yo have a chance TO PROVE that you CAN PLAY in the BIG SHOW through a minor league system. THAT is the advantage those tow leagues have as sets itself apart as to how much skill is needed and how tough it is to make those leagues.

Which begs the question: Why do they earn the big bucks BEFORE proving themselves in the minors?

Which begs the question: Why do they earn the big bucks BEFORE proving themselves in the minors?

A question that might never be answered. This is one of the main reasons why I never side with owners. One minute they cry poverty, next minute they are dishing out money to a guy that has never pitched against "A" ball quality talent.

...go figure...

When the current CBA expires at the conclusion of the 2011 season all this stuff will be addressed.

All talent procurement will be through a World Wide Draft.

Completely slotted, no more gigantic signing bonsuses, no more posting fees for Japanese talent, no more bidding wars for a supposed 16 yr can't miss prospect from Latin America or anywhere else in the world. Boras can concentrate his efforts in the market for actual MLB players.

Long overdue IMO.

I agree.

Cliff Lee Owns the NL

Any Phillies fans that were disappointed in the Cliff Lee acquisition (we wanted Roy Halladay, waaaaaahhh!!) can quietly sit down now.

Sit down like nearly every member of the Arizona Diamondbacks did last night thanks to Cliff tossing his second complete game since heading to Philadelphia.

Lee took a no-hitter in to the sixth inning. He finished the game in about two and a half hours. Lee fanned 11, a career best. Of his 106 pitches, only 25 were balls. Needless to say, he walked nary a D-Back. And he did this all in front of the largest crowd of the season at more than 45,000 Phillie fans.

Since the trade that sent Lee out of Cleveland, he has mustered an ERA of 0.82 with his 4-0 record. In his four starts, he has struck out 34 batters.

To say Cliffy is taking a liking to the City of Brotherly Love is an understatement.....

You also have to say that 90% of the National League has also never seen him. Same thing was said about CC when he went to Milwaukee. Now mind you, CC Sabathia is pitched pretty good for then Yankees since coming back to the AL...but he is NOT the same guy that dominated the NL when he pitched with Milwaukee. There is NO DOUBT LEE WILL get BOTH MVP and CY YOUNG consideration if he keeps this pace going.

No way he gets MVP consideration. He played less than half the season in the NL and the way Albert is playing, he is the runaway winner as of now.
