Remember that the point of this exercise was to try to enable spots that weren't previously working. Only those within the impacted areas would be able to see any change and only for the "short burst" of testing.

The D10 spot beams are virtually indistinguishable from the D12 spot beams.

People aren't talking about spot beams. They are referring the CONUS transponders that have been 0 lately.

I understand that. The point of this exercise was to attempt repair on the spot beams and the status of the CONUS beams is no real indicator of the progress of the "restorative procedure". The return to CONUS service cannot happen until the spot beam testing is complete.

Any word on when this BS will be done so we can get more HD channels? It has been 20 days. Are they on schedule for the up to 30 day scenario?

You know, even taking into consideration all the planned HD, we are still going to be missing a lot. On the basic level there is AMC, TCM, Fuse, IFC, G4, ID, and Tru. On the proemium channel level there are of course a lot of HBO/MAX channels they will be missing.

I have actually considered going with Bright House Networks (also the company that handles my VO static IP'd Internet account) and reducing my DirecTV package. I'd keep DirecTV, 2 HD DVRs, as well as the Starz Superpack, Showtime Unlimited and HD Extra package.

With Bright House Networks I would carry HBO and Cinemax, which have all all HD eastern feeds of all the multichannels, as well as all the other channels I mentioned except Tru in HD.

I could literally get it all with two providers again. But I shouldn't have to! I had FIOS in my old house and they had everything I wanted at the time. But I cannot get FIOS here and it looks like I may have to go with two providers to get everything I want again. Such a shame.

DirecTV is adding some good stuff with 12 but it is too little too late. They are not taking HBO/MAX serious at all. While I enjoy Zone, it would make logical sense to add Signature next.

I cannot identify with DirecTV and their line of thinking. My "contract is up" and I may have them show me the door or reduce my package like this. In 2010, their HD offerings just aren't cutting it anymore.

The grant came through Wednesday. High power testing is waived to begin as early as June 9th.

Once testing is completed and the drift back starts, DIRECTV is authorized to resume commercial transmissions.

The latest buzz is that new national HD channels will be added on June 30th.

For the LOVE OF GOD!! Cancel Directv!!

With the exception of AMC and Fuse, Dish has all of that stuff. Plus you'd get BBC America HD, DIY HD, EPIX1 & 2, plus other movie channels like Indieplex and Retroplex.

It would appear you're the exact opposite of me in terms of desires. I'm annoyed that Dish is focusing on adding HD movie channels and has yet to commit to full time HD regional sports nets, so I'm currently in the process of planning to dump Dish for Direct.

If you're into movies, Dish would be the obvious choice at this point.

Your acceptance of the DirecTV status quo just feeds into the problem. Being complacent with DirecTV as is and not complaining is what allows DirecTV to not be the HD leader by any stretch, yet say they are. They are missing so many HD channels that are staples of the industry, yet people say they are this cutting edge outfit. Nobody cares about 3D at this point. We are still waiting for a ton of HD channels that just about everybody else has. Seriously, where are the HBO/MAX HD channels? Where is AMC HD? They just don't even bother to carry this stuff. Defenders of DirecTV are like Apple defenders. It doesn't matter how crappy the product or products are, they will defend it until the end.

I would leave DirecTV but isn't that clear cut and easy. You can joke and laugh about people that raise their ire with the company all you want. Some of us make it known when we are unhappy with a company or product and some of us don't. You don't. You just leave. I push for change. Two very different approaches but I'll tell you that the improvements that have been made over the years were not done because of complacency of your type of customer.

It is the squeaky wheel that gets the oil. You can thank people like me that raise the red flag when we are lied to (June 2007 press release) and complain, complain, complain.

Full time HD regional sports, was why I dumped Dish also. Plus Direct carried 3 other locals in HD beside the big 5., one of them carried all the Suns games. Its great watching every game in HD.
I'm not a big movie channel fan either, so my interest was with who had the most sports in HD. If you enjoy college sports direct also has ESPNU in full screen HD. If you carry the HD pack additional 5 dollars you get Smithsonian HD also one of my watch channels.

It would be nice to get True Tv in HD, I did enjoy some of the programming.

Well, not exactly... Dish does not have all HBO/MAX HD channels (I'll settle for east only even though I was spoiled with all 26 east/west at FIOS). AMC specifically is important to me because of Breaking Bad and Mad Men (not the commercial laced movies).

My whole point is that in order to get "everything" I want would have to pay TWO providers (DirecTV or Dish and BHN). While previously I had it all with FIOS. I would gladly pay DirecTV another $50 a month if they would throw up another satellite and carry all available premium channels in HD and some others like ID HD, AMC HD, and TCM HD. If I am on the verge of paying two providers what amounts to about double, surely I am willing to pay more to have it all on one provider.
