UNC Football: Major Infractions!

No, it was an announcement of wrongdoing by another major college. Lemme explain......
What the Ohio State players did in trading autographs for tattoos was wrong. The cover-up was worse. Tressel tried to handle it internally, but it burned him in the end. End of story. Yet is was dragged on for 1,000+ replies and multiple threads.
What I'm trying to say is, it's hard not to draw a comparison between the two schools and how they will be looked at in the media since they were the two most recent schools to be involved in wrong doing. Not that because of what other schools are doing makes what tOSU did ok, but what they did isn't the end of the world and the worst possible thing ever. The media and this forum held them to the fire and acted like they were the devil and should be put to death, never to be heard from again. My point was that by all accounts and accusations, what the kids at Ohio State did was technically wrong, Tressel not snitching them out to the compliance office was wrong, but no where near the capacity of wrong that UNC has been accused of in academic fraud and being in cahoots with an NFL agent. No where. None. Yet this story will not get a fraction of the pub that tattoo-gate did.
The reason it went WAY past 1000 replies was because MORE information was coming out and the complete denial by some Ohio State fans that they did anything wrong. Not to mention, when OTHER school have done wrong, SOME Ohio State fans have gone into that "we are better than that" attitude. These things happen in cycles and major football and/or basketball program go through these investigations....most getting a slap in the hand. ALSO, if I am not mistaken, to threads were merged, but I could be wrong. ALSO, UNC football will more than likely never be bigger than Ohio State football and as one poster already mentioned, if this was UNC baksetball, it would have been BIGGER than tattoo-gate AND USC football combined.
There's no fun in criticizing a mediocre team. Maybe OSU fans should consider all the attention a compliment due to the sustained success of their program. 
But that wasnt, and isnt the end of story in that case. More info kept coming out, so more discussion was warranted.
Granted, there is always in cases like this, some smack talk. Its part of it. Bigger, more prominent schools (I remember it well when Bama went through it) get more of it because of who they are, but that is not the only, or even main reason this was discussed so much here IMO.
I don't know why Hart posted that about me...perhaps he wanted to give the Iceberger a reason to attack me!
Make no mistake I am a HUGE Buckeye fan...always have been, always will be. I suppose the difference Hart may be referring to is that I tend to be MUCH harder on my teams than any of you could possibly hope to be.
As my Buckeye brethren know all too well I've been all over Tressel for his game management skills, and also Terrell Pryor for his performance on the field. As much as everyone now criticizes Rex Ryan, I was the first one, halfway through his first season, who attacked Ryan for talking the talk before he walked the walk.
Isiah Thomas, Brian Cashman, Rex Ryan, Mr T, A-Rod, Glen Sather, St. John's before Lavin took over...I don't do the Miami spin and defend them any time they're criticized. And that includes Ohio State. I appreciated the Vest (who wouldn't after enduring Cooper?), but I didn't worship the Vest.
I don't comment much on this situation because some people here already have it all figured out (even though the NCAA doesn't have it all figured out yet), and whatever you say just leads to more internet forum genius-type criticism. So whatever, I'm just going to wait and see what the NCAA decides, and then hope things get straightened out so we can get back to winning football games.
One thing history tells us is that there are certain programs (Ohio State, USC, Alabama, Texas and yes...Michigan) that, no matter what befalls them either on or off the field, will recover and get back to being the major power that they are.
So go ahead and enjoy the Buckeye tribulations. True fans know that despite whatever setback this turns out be, Ohio State will once again return to being a national power.

You do realize that a lot of those so called "accusations" that came out have actually been proven wrong and have been dismissed (including the players allegedly getting a discount on a car), right? Oh, what's that you say? It wasn't reported by ESPN? Oh, right. Only hearsay and accusations to tear a franchise down are reported. Accusations proven false are never reported.
Read my response to Salsa. A lot of those accusations have since been proven false and unfounded.
The crux of the whole OSU issue is the fact that coach was aware of the violations and decided to turn a blind eye to them, creating more severe NCAA violation(s) himself. The purported violations by the players would probably have amounted to nothing more than a slap on the wrist, if brought to light when discovered.

LMAO, there were alot more accussation than discounted rental cars. But funny how ALL the things that were accused, came from OHIO newspapers that were reported by ESPN. But when you are ready to post some of the other accusation from those newspapers stating they were hearsay...the please go right ahead. I would like to read them.
Yep. Live and learn. The Vest dug his own grave. He tried to handle it internally instead of reporting to the compliance office. Kind of like when your kid gets into trouble. Do you run to the cops, because it's the legal thing to do, or do you handle it internally?
I just don't think that years from now, any of this scandal will overshadow the greatness that Tressell brought to this school.
Anyway, but to subject at hand....weren't the BCS folks that run it supposed to meet with Congress or something like that? And if they were, I wonder if they would discuss the whole issue of booster, street agents and 'friends of the program'....
Of course it will! LOL! That last bowl game win is tarnished. The national championship game with Clarrett has a stink to it. Players exchanging gifts for money and stuff did not happen to "just a couple of players". Things were going really well at Ohio State. At the very least, the punishment from the NCAA will not be a slap in the hand not by tattoo-gate of what the players did, but of his lying and denying anything was going on.
I am sure the person that is Jim Tressell is a great human being, but he failed the university in tell the whole truth about his program.
To OSU fans it won't.
I feel sad for the rest of you who are unable to overlook a smidgen of negativity and how it clouds all the good someone has done. That's a terrible way of going through life.

HD, I wouldn't argue this. You can't win.
No matter what anyone says, this won't change how I feel about Tressel. And nobody should be able to change your perception either. That's ALL that matters.

And I agree 1000%. But you also cannot change the wrong he did.
Just because you have a father that has made many mistakes in his life, does not mean you can't love the man. Same thing applies here. Not trying to change anyone's mind about the MAN.
