DISH Drops AMC Networks (AMC Back on DISH channel 131)

I think less on Amazon, but your point is correct. But Dish is paying at least most people to do that. After that, if there even is a series after next year, most likely many will be out of contract, and if AMC is that important they can switch with no penalties. Others won't care, and got a Roku in the deal. I'm not actually defending dropping a channel, it would be better if Dish did not, of course. But I look around, carefully go through Charter Cable, Uverse, Fios, Brighthouse, and Direct TV, (all available in the places I live) and there is no question Dish is less expensive, generally better DVR's, and generally as much or more HD. Dish has other things that make a difference for me, superstations, AAD, Euronews, the list goes on. So like with any service, point is you make choices. You are less likely to lose a channel with Direct TV at least for very long. But I can't get what I want with them. (Though they would be my next choice) And they are somewhat higher. Cable is just plain more expensive and except for FIOS picture for the others I mentioned just not as good. But Fios dropped around four channels at least that I know of, I posted them earlier somewhere. So there is not a guarantee channels won't be dropped.

I do not see it as making anyone a sucker or some shrewd move, it's the business model Dish is using, they will not overpay or take channels they really do not want to pay for (already proved this with Fuse and MSG) but that means possibly losing a channel. Could they go too far? Sure, but lets reverse that, has cable (at the very least some cable) gone too far in prices by not challenging providers? Absolutely.

Good post. Good points.
Did not mean to offend with the word suckers.
If you read post I was playing with what charlie might have been thinking.

Truth is they all do it. Pull channels.
It just seems to me dish does it more than others.
I'm extra sensitive because dish pulled my favorite suite of channels in Voom in 2008.
Wether you like or dislike a channel pulling
Them is really not a great way to treat loyal subs.
My wife and I love AMC Mad Men. We also
Enjoy watching it on our favorite system, dish! Finding other ways to
Watch it is not ideal.

With AMC, I was able to get a roku from dish, but if the wife for some reason can't wait for mad men We have limited basic right now with Comcast since I have Comcast if I want any kind of high speed Internet .

Iguess I could Move up to expanded basic as I see amc is in that package. Don't want to and since where was such a spacing between seasons wife may not notice so hopefully it will work out with a future Netflix sub when mad men is available

Can I say something about the refurbished Roku? It's free! If it works the way a Roku should work, I just saved about $60 on Dish's generosity. So thank you Dish. As I have been saying, they could have just said " you don't like AMC being gone? Too bad."

About sums it all up as well for me. While not everyone is happy I think it was a nice move on there part. But yes I know many will miss AMC, if it was a favorite of mine I could see the frustration on some people. The frustration yes, the anger and rage not so much

With cable bundles, just be sure as with all
Promos across the board see what it's going to cost after the promo bundle. As some o my Comcast neighbors inform me off. And I can also say that out local comcast is the un disputed king of fees

True satjay I will never go to Charter for cable or telephone just internet.Charter loves fees also but this new promo charter is coming out with the telephone there going to eat the fees for it :)

Very misleading, that's the DVR service charge for up to four rooms, each box is $5 more including the first room. That is exactly the promo I used above, and see the charges. It really is $25 for the first room. We have gone through this before, someone posting Charter only gets $5 for an additional DVR box. That completly ignores the $19.99 tacked on to that and that the first room also pays that $5.

Bundling will not change those fees. In the case of Charter, bundling lowers fees for the internet more than it does for the TV package, but I can't say that in all cases because I see so many different promos from each carrier.

I apologize for this being off topic but just did a quick check on Comcast in my area for some fun three hd dvr's which I think is comparable to my two hopper one Joey set up. 51.00 in monthly
Fees!

First year? Bundled? What's included in your package subscription? Just a few things to look at, and was why I selected Dish over Directv and Comcast when I first signed up. FiOS wasn't available at the time and since it looks like I'll be moving, not "moving", to southern NH where FiOS isn't available, not even a viable option for me.

Yes. They really came through for their customers, this time.

I do have some issues with the Roku 2 itself, compared to earlier models. But, that is a problem with the Roku company, not Dish.

how many rokus will dish give away? whats that cost vs the increase in cost amc is asking for?

add to that what people will pay to use the roku

yeah, they coulda/shoulda kept it

I wonder if Charlie made a deal with Roku?
He possibly bought a boatload of refurbished
Units in anticipation of this.

I'm sure Roku worked out a great deal for dish.

That is a darn good question and nobody in either company is talking $s, so we may never know. But recall that Charlie Ergen is an accountant by training. I would expect him to make a good decision, i.e. one that costs less. So, my wag is that AMC was asking for such outrageous carriage fees, that the Roku's and the $10X12 allowances for AMC lovers who stayed with Dish would be less. Did he guess right? No idea myself, but I think the ongoing Voom lawsuit is less important to Charlie than the $$$ AMC was asking for on July 1.

Don't forget that these Rokus and discounts are only being given to those of us who ask for them. Obviously, there is a much larger percentage of Dish subs who don't know about the offers, even the ones who are aware that AMC is gone.

BTW - I know it has to be taken with a grain of salt, maybe one the size of a salt lick, but the Loyalty guy I spoke with said AMC was asking for a 200% increase....
