BIG 10 is BACK - A Deal Has Been Reached!

OK.......So what did you want the rep to do? You have all the right in the world to switch to another provider to watch what you want. Dish has all the right in the world to do what they feel is best for their company. I'm not seeing a problem here. Everyone just needs to do what they feel benefits them the best and that's about as simple as it can be.

Well obviously you are an apologist for Dish and don't understand that the argument that Dish is making when on the phone is don't leave because then the evil provider wins. Have you been reading the posts by Dish on Facebook? Or do you just write them.

I like the Dish system we have but not being able to get the programming I want doesn't make me the bad guy or ignorant as Dish and their apologists think.

Not everyone has had a good experience with Dish 'Customer Service' when calling and trying to get BTN back, I didn't know that commenting about that was a bad thing on a forum about Dish dropping BTN.

It's not a bad thing. I'm just trying to help people see the larger picture. What's going on now is not the only time this will happen. You're going to see this happen more and more in the next year or two with multiple networks. It's going to affect more than just B1G fans. These networks are beginning to think they are more important than anyone else and they want to get paid like it.

I'm not saying these things to defend Dish, I'm saying it to defend customers and all TV providers, not just Dish. People are already crying about how much they pay for TV and they should, it's getting very expensive. Providers can not carry everything we want to watch, the way we want to watch it for a cheap price. Overall the whole TV industry is in chaos and it's not just the networks but the providers that need to get things figured out.

Just acting mad, complaining and demanding what you want doesn't do anybody any good other than upsetting more people.

You are being overly sensitive. Scherrman was not being an apologist for Dish nor was he admonishing you. He was simply, and accurately stating everyone has a right to make their own assessment, choose a course of action and act accordingly. Nothing more. And as he previously said, simple.

posting this with all do respect so don't take personal its only to make a point
You sell appliances if someone comes in and ask for a new dryer do you tell them No I will not sell you one the manufacturer charges to much for them and you can dry you laundry a a rope in your kitchen cheeper?
I like a new York strip steak once every two weeks would my meat man say no i can't sell it to you steak cost to much eat ground beef instead.I want a to decide whats to much to pay .You may be right the provides my be wanting more than there product is worth but let the consumer decide not dish.

I understand what you're trying to get at but I don't really think your analogy applies very well. People have a choice to buy whatever appliance they want. If they want to buy an expensive one they can. If another person comes in and wants a cheaper one, they can buy it. With TV we are all stuck with the same group of channels and have to pay for all of them regardless of what ones we watch. Appliances are more like a la carte, you get to pick whatever you want and pay more if you want it.

TV is it's own beast and I really think it's in a big hot mess.

Very well said. I would not bet the farm with costs escalsting and a horrible economy that people won't pick a few less choices for less cost.

I agree completely with this and is why I think major change is only a few years away in the industry. Programming costs are out of control and more people are cutting the cord, it's not going to get better with rising costs. Which is why I'm sure Dish is fighting networks like BTN and AMC. However, people want to see these popular channels and to not have them available is a major problem that needs to get fixed. Of course the networks need to realize if they don't concede a bit on escalating costs they will also lose out and they stand to lose the most by a la carte programming. I think someday a hybrid of a la carte is coming.

Another thing to remember is that Dish has to try and make the best choices for everyone. When you say you don't want them making the choice to drop a channel when you are willing to pay more for it, there are just as many people out there that couldn't care less about that channel. They may even be happy Dish is not paying for it. The hard part for a provider is giving everyone what they want for a reasonable price while abiding by the network's rules of what to carry. What I really feel pisses customers off the most is that they don't have the control they want over what they pay to watch. When channels like BTN drop there isn't a drop in our bills so it still makes us upset.

I'm a Dish customer just like the rest of you and I'm also a huge B1G football/basketball fan. I don't care for this dispute either. It upsets me that I can't watch or record the games and it affects my business, which is what REALLY upsets me. I pay more than the average customer for my programming too so when I lost one of my favorite channels I politely asked Dish if there was a way I could lower my bill since I'm missing channels. The nice fellow at Dish was willing to give me more than what I asked for.

Why don't Big10 and AMC set up online pay channels for those of us that can't get their channel on our chosen tv provider? They could charge $5.00/month and it would offset their current losses from their gridlock with Dish and it would allow those of us that really want the programming to receive it. They could set it up as roku/apple tv channels and make a lot of us less unhappy.

That would be a good question for them. Basically in line with the question as to why they won't let providers sell their channels a la carte. Would be handy for most people but they won't.

While that may be the case with one particular channel, eventually the same thing will happen with a channel they do care about. If Dish makes everyone happy by not paying for the channels they don't care about, we won't have any channels left.

Because their contracts with the providers prohibit this type of access. Directv, Dish and all of the cable companies would scream bloody murder if a company demanded this.

Brother just called and complained and got the Sports back and Showtime for free since he cant watch football this weekend. If there giving out stuff still they must not be close to a deal is my guess.

Agreement Reached

Got email from Btn this morning. They came to an agreement to put Btn back on but at 5:30 am central Dish didn't have it on yet.
