You can't just drop a bomb like that and then leave us hanging!

Update.... As most of you know, I probably own at least one of almost any receiver that has ever manufactured. Typically, will eventually give away these testing samples in various contests here on Satelliteguys without review or comment.

Last Wednesday on 9/19/2012 I purchased a Sunstar ST-5000HD on the Ocean Satellite website. About an hour later I received a telephone call from the owner, Joe, who was curious why I bought the receiver. I let him know that I own most every receiver ever distributed in North America for knowledge of the market. We had a great friendly 1/2 hour conversation talking shop and during that conversation I assured him that the testing was not for any public review. I then followed up and emailed him some channel information to answer a question for one of his customers.

On Friday, 9/21/2012 I received an email from Joe stating that due to comments on this thread made by myself and a SatelliteGuys principal that he was reviewing this thread with his attorney and he would be refunding my PayPal payment shortly. I cc'd Scott with my reply (due to the implied potential legal action) and suggested that my post on this thread was primarily based on the incorrect product specifications and conflicting information on his product postings. I reassured him that my receiver purchase was simply to add the STB to my collection and to increase my knowledge about available receivers.

Jump forward three more days.... As of noon today, 9/24/2012 I had yet to receive any reply to my email, tracking on a shipped package or the promised PayPal refund. I wrote a follow-up email asking to either receive package tracking or the refund confirmation. Within the hour I received the PayPal refund.

I am confused... This is the first time that a distributor has not either sold or offered a free unit to test. Not sure why Ocean Satellite has cancelled my order and refused to sell me the satellite receiver??? Guess that my word doesn't count for much....

:D I would like to reimburse any SatelliteGuy's member who would purchase a Sunstar ST-5000HD on my behalf. PM me if you are willing.....

BTW, Digiwave has shipped samples of their two new HD receivers. Looking forward to being able to do some testing this week!!!

now when you go to their site it says this (using the link in post 1)

Product 'hdrcvr' is not available at this time.

and on Ebay

This listing was ended by the seller because the item is no longer available.

Sorry I can't help you out there, Brian, but I won't be purchasing from any company that reserves the right to refuse the sale of a product based on race, creed, sexual orientation or expert knowledge of satellite products. They can certainly ask you why you wanted to order their product, but it seems to me that they would be on shaky legal ground if they refuse a sale to you and then authorize one to anyone else thereafter.

Would they be worried if somebody knowledgeable looked at their product? What a strange turn of events. Then the product isn't for sale any more...? This is going to be a weird week.

Two of them :)

Not 100% sure till Monday but I think a sub $100 STB will be shipping soon from Digiwave that does 4:2:2 :) :) :)

I emailed the specs to KE4EST. Hope he will post I'm at a boat port getting ready to leave and don't want to pay .55 a min to post something lol.

Don't get your hopes up ;p

With that being said, I will pickup a sample of their new boxes tomorrow as I’m local to their headquarters and they are always begging for me to go and visit them. Will then do a quick test and let you guys know if it picks up 4.2.2 or not.

My guess based on the info on their website :

- One receiver is a low cost DVB-S2 box similar to an Openbox

- The second box is a hybrid DVB-S2 and IPTV receiver. It does NOT run on Android.

- They also have another IPTV only box with NO satellite tuner running Android 2.2. These have been available from China for a while now.

Regards,

PwrSurge

Sounds like Joe has cleared up some of the confusion about the stats on his new Sat Receiever. After conferring with the manufacturer he probably found out it wasn't what he thought he was buying and selling. He doesn't like buying crap either, so no sale.

If this is the case then I give Joe Kudos!

WOW, Way to much Drama for me with Sunstar ST-5000HD Ocean Satellite. I will stay with Brian and the MicroHD. This product works and works VERY well! I have not had the first problem with the two I own! ;) Watch, read and learn alot! I enjoy this hobby and will read and watch the new receivers coming out. But, my money is pretty tight and I am very happy with the service and products Brian has!

Well...crap!! This is not good. I ordered one and I do have the shipping information for it. I guess I'll just count this as a $44 loss, if this much bad stuff is going down... If anyone has a suggestion for what I should do, please let me know!

Only suggestion I can give is to REVIEW IT for us!

I love learning about new equipment and you will help SatelliteGuys members decide if its worth spending their money or not incase it shows back up for sale anywhere. :)

Who knows it just might be a GEM!

Just want to clarify that my posting have only been based on my observations, emails and conversations. I have no knowledge of what the STB can or cannot do.

Xourque, I would not consider spending only $44 on a MPEG2/4 HD receiver to be a risk.

Like Scott suggests, it may be a great unit. Please do post your review and let us know!
