True FTA Newbie Needs a lot of help please.

I want to set up a motorized dish for FTA and already have a few receivers. I need a source for a good dish, motor and how to set up so I can get the full spectrum of what is available to me. I thought there was a way to set up at one extreme end to start at one SAT and the arc when the motor is moving will catch the other SATS in the spectrum.

I jut need to know how to get started and what relativly inexpensive dish and motor would be best for the job. I recall years ago even seeing a video of how to set up a motorized dish, but cannot remember where exactly that was.

Thanks for any and all help that can be offered. I was also wondering what parts of the world I will be able to receive. My mother likes German programming and that would be nice. Since Network stuff it free with a Antenna, are there and FTA SATS that provide Free Network Programming?

- 36" dish (satAV sells one with PLL LNBF, or in a package with above receiver)

Hi Mark,
The only "free" German programming I know of is on Intelsat 21 at 58 degrees but it is C band (8-10 foot dish). I think there is also some German on AMC1, also C band. For KU band I have the SG2100 motor, a Winegard 2076 dish (30"), and a KU lnbf and that combo seems to work well for me. Others might have a better suggestion. For an excellent article on how to set up your motor/dish to track the satellite arc, please Google "how to do a perfect sg2100 setup" and it will give you a link. As far as free network programming, I think NBC has some channels at 103 degrees. All the nets have channels on C band, but again that takes a big dish. Maybe someone else will reply with additional info. Lyngsat or Sathint are good sources for what sats have what services. At the bottom of the Lyngsat home page is a listing for "free tv". You can select the area of the world you wish to watch and then select a country. It will tell you what broadcast services are available and which satellite carries them.

I will look into getting what has been suggested. I have a couple of FTA Receivers and will have to see if I got the correct ones for the job. Thanks all for your info. Atleast I have a jumping off point.

Use dishpointer.com to see if you are able to aim at the satellite you want, you will need a clear insight line to the sats.
Go to lyngsat to see if you like the channel listing. 5 digit transponders are for KU reception.

If you thinking about getting Starz, HBO etc , that will not happen with FTA.
