Looking to get into FTA

Welcome Barleygiy to SatelliteGuys!

To watch and record ATSC from a SiliconDust tuner you would need the A3 with the SiliconDust $1.99 Android app. The mini HD SE or microHD cannot work with the SiliconDust tuners. If you plan on streaming often, definitely go with the A3.

The A3 provides a very refined experience and a stable machine with regular updates an a very cool new feature that will be announced soon!

Cool. I plan to go with the GeoSatPro 36" and the Amiko A3 (need to wait til payday).

My dish cabling goes to the TV in my basement, but I also have a projector upstairs in the living room, with a PC connected to it. I was thinking I'd put the A3 on the existing cabling and connect to it remotely from the PC. Will that work well with the A3?

Are there any affordable motors that you'd recommend that will work with that dish and receiver?

Also, I have a mast /pole from a Dish 1000 on the south wall of my garage. Can I put the GeoSatPro 36" on that pole to avoid leveling a new one?

Personally, I wouldn't stream from downstairs A3, just use a HDMI splitter and get a 2nd RF remote. Then you will have all A3 apps and control in both areas.

The STAB hh90 motor is the best on the market. Will work perfect with the 90cm.

Can't advise if current mast is suitable. Download the DishPointer app to your smart phone to see if that location will allow view of the arc of satellites and have clearance from the wall or other obsticles when turning.

Thanks for the help.

I know that I have clear view from 61.5W to 119W, because there was a Dish 500 pointed at 61.5 and a Dish 1000 pointed to 110, 118, and 119. West of 119 I'm not sure. My neighbor's front yard has a large tree that may block the view somewhere around 130W.

I was mainly worried about weight. Is the 90 cm dish significantly heavier than a Dish 1000?

Hi. Im looking to get into FTA Satellite. I mainly want RetroTV, but will probably just go with a motor and try to pull in everything that's visible from here.
hi barleyguy. welcome to satguys. if you have not already read this http://www.satelliteguys.us/xen/threads/new-to-fta-read-this-first.344569/ thread yet please take a few minutes to do so. it explains some good info.
after reading other members replies no one pointed out there are WAY more good fta channels on C-band.

C-band is impractical for me at the moment, but I'll ponder it for a someday project.

Titanium, I'm planning to buy an Amiko A3 on Friday. Do you have them in stock? I'm going out of town on Friday the 20th, so I'd like to get it shipped UPS 3-Day by Monday if it's possible. I can PM or email if you want.

A3s are in stock.

You may order online or call. :D Personally, I would select USPS Priority service. 1/3 - 1/4 the price and same delivery window.

Oh, I went ahead and ordered the Amiko A3. I put it on Paypal Credit. I'll just pay it off on payday rather than waiting. Saved me a few bucks on shipping, because I just went with the free economy shipping.

Questions:

1. Does this come with the latest US firmware?
2. I have a 1 TB hard drive that I am planning to put in it. What filesystem should I use? Ext4?

I won't actually have the dish for a couple of weeks, because I'm going to wait until the 20th to order that, and hope to get an HH90 around the same time. I'll be playing with the A3 in the meantime.

Thanks.

The dealer you ordered from can tell you for sure but it should have the latest Americas ROM when shipped. The hard drives I use with all my Amiko receivers, including the one in the A3, are all formatted NTFS. My Linux computers have no problem with it and it's much easier to attach to a windows computer to copy a lot of recordings for editing or archiving.

I've heard a rumor about the A3 that if it pans out people are going to be like WOW.

Stayed tuned perhaps Brian and Michael will spill the beans on satellite nation tomorrow :)

Guess we have to wait then - unless you wanna spill the beans... No? C'mon, it was worth a try! ;):D
Lol

If I could confirm 100% I would but I'm waiting too.

Love this box.

I got my Amiko A3 today. I haven't hooked it to a dish yet. I'll probably try it on my Dish 500 on Monday and look for something with circular polarity to test it with. I'm going to order the GeoSatPro in the next couple of weeks.

(The A3 was supposed to be here Thursday, but USPS evidently thought that the most efficient route from California to Denver was via Massachusetts. ;-)

Question: Does anybody know how to enable developer mode / USB debugging / ADB on this box? I don't see "Build Number" in the settings screen. I want to enable sshd through ADB.

Thanks.
