Sorry if this has been discussed but will the Super Bowl be shown on 4K on Directv? They say the last years was filmed on 8k as a test so is this years good to go on 4K?

Thanks.

If it was going to be broadcast in 4K I would have expected to have been bombarded with that information long before now. I asked this question a few weeks ago so it doesn't look like it will be.

That would be awesome if it was. Would make an extended shopping trip to Best Buy and watch it on one of their display 4K sets. I have never seen 4K in action, but am afraid if it looks as good as people have said my impulse buying would kick in!. :)

Best Buy would have to have a Directv 4K set up in order to see it.

Don't go in there and watch the game on one of thier 4k sets and think that it IS 4k.
It may still look phenomenal as most stuff does on the newer sets, but its not 4k unless they have that particular set up.
Don't let them lie to you, ask to see it.

So far, the game is not being shown in 4k.

fox is suppose to be showing all their sports in 4k this year what i heard

By now it's a lost cause. If FOX or Directv were providing a 4K experience it would have been all over the air waves at least two weeks ago. You would also be seeing BBS hawking the 4K TV sales for the big game. None of those three would miss the advertising opportunity, just like they didn't for weeks leading up to the Olympics.

I heard it has to do with local commercials. I honestly don't remember any local commercials during the game last year. But if thats the case, couldn't DIRECTV insert them like they do with the "cable channels"? Of course that would probably take a lot of planning.

some markets may not have any local spots but there are some not that they are any good.

The local spots are inserted by the local station anyhow. While DirecTV does do local ad inserts on some DVR's, I doubt that it happens during the superbowl when spots are at a premium.

So no Super Bowl in 4K then.

One of my contacts from AT&T / DIRECTV emailed me overnight and said at this time there are no plans to offer the SuperBowl in 4K. While not an official response from their PR department, I do trust this source.

Honestly, I haven't heard anything either. It's not like they couldn't do a 4k broadcast, but with all of those cameras, it would be one hell of a nightmare to figure out.
They have used 4k cameras for a while..games get downrezzed

According to Wikipedia it's XXXIV in 2000 on ABC (720p). NFL uploaded the game on their YouTube page but it was only in SD so who knows if they saved it in HD.

Oddly enough, recording the game would be the only reason to use 4K cameras and production. Also that 8k anecdote above may be referring to the "NFL Films" cameras which are entirely separate from the television cameras.
