Personal Computer Game News

That's too bad. I was looking forward to playing Vanquish at 144 FPS.
I'm sure it's just a matter of time before they fix it. It's a little annoying though that this happens so often and developers seem to not notice it or fix it before launch. I don't think it's reasonable to expect PC gamers to lock in a nearly 80% reduction in frame rate in order to get a game to play the way it was intended.

Tony Hawk's Pro Skater HD is being de-listed from the Steam Store this week, so it's on sale for 80% off. However, the DLC that is basically necessary to enjoy the game is still at full price.

This game could have been AWESOME but it just ended up being a mess. All they had to do was use 3's engine with 1-3's maps and it would have been perfect. Instead we got a weird hybrid that never quite gelled. You'd be better off finding a way to play 3 again honestly.

In a move that definitely does not reek of desperation at all, EA is now allowing people to play the first 10 hours of Mass Effect: Andromeda for free. This includes single and multiplayer content. This offer expires on November 1.

Mass Effect: Andromeda Free Trial

EA has done free trials after release with other games in the past. The main difference is that you had to be an EA/Origin Access member to get access to the trials. This time it's open to everyone, including PS4 owners who can't sign up for EA Access.

Right. The fact that this is being done for EVERYONE shows a bit of a lack of confidence. I'm willing to bet that ME:A will be either on Access or cut to like $20 by the end of the year.

Final Fantasy XV has finally been announced for PC

http://kotaku.com/final-fantasy-xv-comes-to-pc-next-year-1798148321

Here's a trailer of sorts

Edit: Let's hope this is OPTIONAL, but it looks like the recommended specs for the game involve 170 GB of storage space. This is likely to accommodate the 4/8K HDR textures, but given the INSANE specs which less than .1 % of PC owners have, forcing such a massive storage albatross seems very foolish when they're not going to be used by most people. Hell I'd love to experience FF XV at 4K but if it means having to buy a new SSD I'll just deal with a steady HD/60 FPS instead.

This doesn't make any sense. There are tons of great looking PC games with 4K and even higher textures included by default and I have never heard of any asking for anything close to 170GB. Doom is probably the worst I have seen at 80GB. If this is because of the the high resolution textures they should take route that Fallout 4, Shadow of Mordor, and other games on Steam have done and put them in a free high resolution DLC pack.

Hell, The Witcher 3 is still one of the prettiest and biggest games I have ever seen. It has the 4K textures included in the main installation and it's still only 35GB.

I'd like to think that they're smart enough to make the high resolution textures optional because if not that's going to be a major hurdle to jump over for purchase. I mean yes, I have enough storage space to run it but I'd rather use it on my SSD and not have my HDD acting as a massive bottleneck.

You would hope so. Still, even with high resolution textures added in something seems off here. There are tons of great looking games with 4K and even higher resolution textures on PC and Fallout 4 is the only one I have ever heard of that even uses half of the 170GB they are asking for here.

Seeing file sizes that large makes me question how well they know PC development. If they have no idea how to optimize storage space I'm not confident that they will know how to optimize anything else in the PC port.

Square Enix has confirmed that the crazy recommended specs announced for FFXV was due to a "miscommunication" and that while final specs are TBD, they are not going to be as extreme as what was put out. Apparently the specs that were the recommended ones were the specs of the computer used in a 4K demo which you can see here:

Now I feel less guilty about selling my PS4 version this weekend.

Final Fantasy 15 Won't Be 170GB On PC

Here's one of those, "Looks good on paper, but worse the more you look into it" stories IMO.

So for the first time ever, WWE 2K18 will have a simultaneous release on PC as well as consoles. Normally they have come out a few months after the console releases.

WWE 2K18 is coming to the PC in October | PC Gamer

While this may seem cool, knowing that all the releases will be at the same time, I'm worried for a number of reasons. First, this has been announced 3 weeks before release date, which has me worried that this thing isn't going to be finished upon release and they'll just plan to patch it later. This is also supported by the fact that unlike the console versions, there's no 5 day early access option for the Deluxe Version. Another issue is that this is technically a worse deal for PC owners than what they're used to. While PC did get the games later, they also would get all the game's DLC included free of charge, and a $50 total price tag instead of $60. Now PC owners need to deal with a Season Pass like everyone else.

Hopefully the game will be good, but I've been a bit wary considering that they've been much slower at revealing content for this game, and after the NBA 2K18 VC fiasco I'm fear they may put that into WWE as well. 2K can get away with it easier with WWE than NBA considering there's no alternate WWE games like there is with NBA.

If the WWE series is anything like the NBA 2K series on PC, I'd say you have reason to worry. I can't remember which year it was but after NBA 2K made the jump to PS4/Xbox One I looked into the PC version. All the reviews were complaining that the game was still using the old engine and not the updated one for the new consoles. Instead of taking the same jump forward as the consoles they released the same game again with updated rosters.

2K took all the games before NBA 2K16 off Steam but going back to that game it looks like they finally updated the engine but most of the reviews claim that it is terribly buggy and pretty much unplayable. As much praise as the NBA 2K series has received on consoles it looks like every version they have on Steam is negatively reviewed.

2K makes some truly great PC games but for whatever reason they haven't translated that into their NBA 2K series. Since WWE 2K is made by Visual Concepts just like NBA 2K I would be skeptical about WWE 2K18 until you hear otherwise.

Honestly I don't see myself buying this game on PC anyways. The reviews of the previous 2 have a mixed rating. I was more concerned about the fact that the previous perks of cheaper price and included DLC are now gone. I was a big fan of their single player "campaigns" but they took them out in 2K17 in lieu of.. well.. nothing from what I can tell.

It's too bad that WWE doesn't license itself out to numerous developers like the major sports leagues used to do, but to be fair that'd probably be logistically impossible given the nature of the business. It would be nice though to see competition among these games. Honestly ever since 2K took over the series has been rather stagnant IMO. They got the license after THQ shut down.
