Just renewed 2 radios, and I got a good deal. I think

OK, Cosmo, please explain how your Taurus gets your listening habits back to SiriusXM. I don't think this is possible.
I wish I knew the technical details, but the car radio has a Radio id/ESN that has to be attached to an active account. You don't think with that info that SXM knows what you're listening to in your car? It's not an FM radio.

Back in 2015 and 2016 I got these emails. The car was the only place we listened back then. Were they guessing, because if so I want tonight's Powerball numbers from them.

Well, obviously! Otherwise your radio would not be authorized and all the channels will go off except for the one promoting SiriusXM.

Well, it's digital... But other than that, it's one-way from SiriusXM satellites and terrestrial repeaters to your car just like FM radio. Your example comm from SiriusXM was indeed a "guess", as they admitted. They were just trying to pump you for more info so that they could market you incessantly. I never reply to that crap. I can also spot "cold reading" a mile away. Cold reading

Of course they said it was a guess. A guess of a handful of channels from their list of hundreds, and in descending order of popularity. Amazing!!

I have a 2018 RAM. If the tire pressure system detects a problem or the check engine light light comes on I get a text message on my phone within a matter of seconds or minutes. I also get an e-mail report about once a month telling me the percentage of oil life remaining and that sort of thing. So I know my vehicle transmits data most likely via cellular technology. Since my radio (Uconnect) is tied into the system CAN bus and everything else in the vehicle It's possible that SiriusXM knows what I'm listening to. I don't know if Ford uses this technology or if it existed in 2008 but I wouldn't rule it out.

I don't doubt that. My 300 has 4 CAN buses and it's remarkable what can be hacked in our vehicles. And IIRC there was a Mopar add-on for my 2012 that turned it into a wireless hot-spot, and it used cell phone technology. This has been possible for many years. So it is possible both you and Cosmo paid for this feature, and that's how SiriusXM knows what he listens to. I didn't pay that exorbitant fee.

In my case, SiriusXM knows exactly what I listen to since it's only one channel. I use that fact to talk them out of good deals every year. Maybe now they've figured out they should just give us deals via their website rather than making us call and threaten them with termination.

Soooo. Several years ago on my new car after the factory SXM sub expired I still got it.
Then I reconciled my bank statement and found a $214 auto draft from some nondescript retailer. A call to my bank revealed it was SXM who did it. Unauthorized by me. Several calls later to SXM and my bank, and me fuming. I got most of my money back. And told my bank to issue a new card and to never accept auto drafts from this company.
Well, mad as hell I unplugged the factory SXM antenna and told them i didn't even have the car anymore and to wipe any association of me and the radio from the face of the globe.
That was about the time I was going to store it for the winter. And soon after it got stored.
In the spring when I took it out for a spin I hooked the antenna back up. I had stations. And all summer long I got stations.
I kept getting the emails of my radio was on for 7 days. Again and again month after month and invites to get me back as a customer.
I just pulled my car out of storage again. I got SXM!.
My advice. Get a prepaid card. Put just enough on it for SXM. Dealing with them makes root canal like a day at the beach.
Same as it ever was (arm chop).

Last year I was able to use the website's automated process during COVID to get a deal. I had All Access in my car because I do listen to Howard Stern and the Select Package in the other two cars. Today I did an online chat with them and was able to get All Access in all three cars for the upcoming year for $32.46 per month or $129.84 per car including the Music fees. I do use the service a lot, so it's worth keeping it.

Just to add to arlo's suggestion I use Privacy.com for anything that renews like SiriusXM, streaming subscriptions, etc. You sign up with them and then generate a unique pre-paid "card" for each company you want to pay. Privacy.com then deducts the amount from your actual account. One big advantage to this is you can use any address you want as the billing address for the Privacy.com cards. I have my "address" set to a state that doesn't have any sales taxes, so when I renew SiriusXM, Dropbox, etc. I just pay the regular rate and don't have to pay the extra in sales taxes.

We just bought a new 2021 vehicle with the 90 day Sirius free trial. I started a chat with a Sirius rep to see how much it will cost to add this second radio to our account when the trial is over. The amount he quoted is more than I'm paying for All-Access now for our 2013 Taurus. The best he could eventually come down to is $60 for a year.

I have three months to decide, but I'll probably just end up swapping out to the newer radio. Is that standard pricing for multiple radios on an account?

$5 a month seems to be their best deal. I get that one in the mail constantly.

And that is exactly what cosmo called $60 for a year. :D I got a deal like that on my wife's car with a free 3rd gen Echo Dot and a smart switch. I was already saying "no thanks" for a couple of years, so maybe that had something to do with the freebies.

They gave you a smart watch?

But, I'm paying $60 for a year now. Their initial offer was $129 to add the second radio. More than double what I'm currently paying? I said that maybe I would open an account in my wife's name to get the sweetheart deal. The rep was embarrassed and came back with $60.

I just thought for some reason it would be a lot cheaper to add a second radio. Like $2/month or something? Boy, was I wrong....

There used to be a family plan. But I'm not sure that's available anymore without paying full price for the primary account.

Just renewed XM Radio Select Package. I called the automated number. I was offered a one year renewal at $89.00. The channels in this package are the only ones I listen to. I'm still stuck in the 60's.
