Star Trek: Strange New Worlds

Enjoyed the episode. Chapel and Spock, both in the corridor and on the bridge, the inciting of a mutiny on the pirate ship, and (of course) the Aaaargh! by Pike and Number One just saying "Please stop" (as if he'd probably been doing that several times). Liked seeing the Jeffries tubes being used again too. That was a nice touch...

I'm sorry to say this, but... I kind of miss a story arc that ties the series together. The episodic nature of SNW means that you have no idea what's coming next, and when it's over and you know, it doesn't matter for future episodes. The story arc in Discovery is ridiculously apocalyptic and getting more so with every season. There should be some middle ground IMHO.

There are overarching arcs in ST:SNW. For example, the Spock three-way will be ongoing. Dr. M'Benga's daughter seems like a recurring topic.

There have been (and will continue to be according to hints dropped in The Ready Room) crossover arcs between Disco, Picard and SNW.

I like the episodic nature of SNW, especially after the (almost) complete waste of two (out of 10) episodes in this season's arc in Picard and only one or two really good episodes in this season's Discovery arc. I like the idea of not having any idea what's coming in next week's SNW. Brings me back to the days of TOS, TNG, DS9, Voyager and Enterprise. Sure, there were mini-arcs (Borg, Dominion, etc, etc) and character threads that were continued in various episodes, but only Enterprise tried a season arc (in season 2, and it almost killed the show). I wish we had more than 4 episodes left in SNW as well. It's been very enjoyable...

So you don’t like the model of story telling done in TNG and TOS? That’s what SNW provides, and to be every episode has just got better and better. As long_time_DNC points out, the season as an arc results in some seriously wasted episodes.

and it’s not like this series is without connective tissue, characters are Being developed. there are threads which connect. But in the end, it is true Star Trek.

I just wish the season was longer than ten episodes.

I remember when an entire series on tv would last for up to 35 weeks out of the year. Some of these streaming shows can run 4 and 5 years and the total amount of episodes doesn't even equal what we used to get in one season of a show in the early days of tv.
Of course, on the other side of that coin, sometimes 10 episodes is enough in a season (or maybe even too much?). ;)

Since the days of reruns, a full season has been 26 episodes (with maybe one or two off for the holiday season). ST:TNG seasons were 25 or 26 weeks.

I don't think seasons have been much longer than that since TV were primarily live.

Season one of ST:TOS was 29 episodes but I think that included the pilot (not shown at the time). Season two was 26 epsodes and the final season was 24 episodes.

When I was a kid in the late 50's to late 60', a typical season was 32 episodes minimum.

Sitcoms sometimes had longer running seasons, for example, I Love Lucy 1st season had 35 episodes, dropped to 26 by Season 6.

The Lucy Show, 30 episodes the first season, 24 by Season 6, The Beverly Hillbillies 36 episodes the first 2 seasons, 24 at the end.

Dramas, Star Trek TOS had 29 the 1st, 26 the last, Wild Wild West, 28 the first, 24 by the last, etc, etc.

Sorry, I was referring to "I love Lucy." First season was 35 episodes. I should of said like the shows in the 50s. Most tv shows from the 50s till the mid to late 60s had anywhere 30 to 39 episodes. After the late 60s they ran between 20 and 26 episodes and it became the standard season.

Here we are 50+ years later and things have changed. Back then, a single company often sponsored the entire episode. Now there are commercial breaks that consume 30+% of the air time.
