Fear of Poles

.....you guy's are killin' me, man. killin' me.
pallets? sheesh. what are ya anyhow....brits?
sched. 80 is better. the gray stuff. uv resistant. from the electrical supply.
whatcha' do is plant and nurture some tasty berries. blueberries in my case. big as your thumbs even.
no bear will dare mess with your dish. but don't go food shopping in the blistering cold and think you can bring them in the next morning. ax me how i know.....

The laughs on you. There was a time at a previous property where my motorized 1.2m was mounted on a pallet. It scanned from 3W to about 65W. One day I decided I wanted to see more of the western satellites. My wife and I picked up the whole assembly and walked it across the yard. Within minutes, I was scanning the westerlies. Let's see you do that with a pole in concrete.

Our old place was a constant parade of wildlife going past the living room window. These guys really encouraged me to fully automate the tuning on all my ham antennas. Didn't want to be outside tweaking something at 2 a.m.

No wildlife at our new place, but no C-Band dish either.😢

When I installed my 10 ft solid fiber glass dish a friend found the insulation instructions on the internet. It said to dig a hole 3 foot wide and 4 feet deep. Another friend dug the hole with a back hoe. It also said to put a plastic barrel in the hole and fill the space around the outside with dirt and let it set for a while. After about 2 weeks I then install the 8ft pole into the hole with 23 25 pound bags of concrete.

...It said to dig a hole 3 foot wide and 4 feet deep....
When I installed the base/rebar for my 90-foot motorized telescoping tower in the distant past elsewhere, they dug a hole about 5 feet x 4 feet x 8 feet and dumped in about 16 yards of concrete from two cement trucks. They used a big digger and concrete pump reaching over the house for that. With this history, this may have motivated my wife to help me physically carry the palette with 1.2m dish so I wouldn't get any more ideas about concrete. But I digress...
