Upload a image to a post. The picture was taken with my camera turned sideways. When i upload the picture, it shows the picture sideways, i want to rotate it so it shows visually correct.

In windows it shows it right side up, so, i cannot rotate it within windows explorer, it seems to have no effect.

Example picture :

You should be able to rotate it 90 degrees and save with an image editing program then upload it. I use GIMP myself but there are many out there.

I figured it out.. Seems crazy. i didn't have this problem in windows7. Rotate left/rotate right would physically rotate the image. Now, it just visually rotates it. I have to send the picture to Paint, and its automatically oriented correctly, so, i just have to load it into paint, and hit the save button.. Seems like a long work around.

It is compared to using something like Irfanview that can rotate the image by pressing the R or L keys and save it without having to fire up Paint and any of its AI accoutrements.

What would be nice is if i could just right click the image in file-explorer , and rotate it and resize it in two quick clicks. - like i could in windows7.

They make newer and newer software that becomes more user friendly for ignorant people, which is fine, but then take away power tools for people that know what they are doing. I ended up installing a program called JPG lossless rotation tool. It views pictures in original raw orientation , and has a button to rotate all pictures automatically or one by one.

Thanks, you just helped me figure out why some cell tower photos I posted a month ago in a thread would only post sideways. I never thought of pulling them into Paint, and re-saving them. But, that works! raoul5788

This has happened to me when posting images here. I think the forum isn't honoring the meta data/EXIF data for photos that have been manually rotated in other softwate (ie phones, photo editors etc) and reverts to the original image properties. For example, if you took a picture sideways with your phone and then used your phone to manually rotate the picture, the forum is stripping out that information and using the raw data from when the picture was taken. Just my hypothesis. I tested this by taking a screenshot of a photo that I had manually rotated, but would not upload correctly here, and the screenshot of the photo uploaded to the forum just fine.

That sounds logical, except for the fact that all my cell tower photos were all taken up and down. This forum would only post them sideways, no matter what I tried.
