I have had the strangest experience with KU recently, I wanted to put it out to you folks to see if anyone had a guess what could have caused it.

1) About a year ago I upgraded to 4DTV, and C/KU. After some fine tuning, I got very good signal reception and was quite happy with it.

2) Then sometime about midyear, my X4 and other KU band channels became unwatchable. I could barely get any signal to blink in through the digital pixelations and green blocks. I was definitely on the right sat and channels, I could identify the programming, but it wasn't watchable. I tried everything to re-adjust the dish but couldn't do anything to get X4 back with a reasonable signal. Throughout this process, I could always get C analog and C digital fine.

3) When my NPS subscription renewal came up this year, I was really torn about what to do, and let it lapse for a few days, but resolved after spending all that money on the KU and 4DTV upgrade that I would find some way to fix it. So I subscribed to their Absolute Digital and a couple Ala-Cartes (Fox News, and Sci-Fi).

4) This is where it gets weird: When I got the rehit for the renewed NPS service, suddenly my KU came in clear as a bell again with no dish adjustments! It never occurred to me that there could be some screw-up in my receiver programming, something affected by the NPS re-hit, that would affect up my KU reception this way???

What in the world happened? Please tell me there is a rational explanation for this. Is there really something that can get screwed up in the subscription service that would screw up the KU signal. They weren't completely gone, I could get a signal blinking in and out, but it was unwatchable, now it is near perfect again. The only change was that I re-subscribed and got a re-hit.

I would guess there was a Software Glitch? I have been in C Band since well before 4DTV and I sold MANY 4DTV receivers. I have witnessed them to do MANY WEIRD THINGS & some stranger that what you have mentioned here! I only wish that Motorola would release the software rights to a company would that would pick up the dropped ball and UPGRADE the software & firmware in the 4DTV units. Many of the problems with the 4DTV units have been discussed here & in the other satellite forums.

Good Luck & enjoy your 4DTV receiver

Somebody write a letter to Motorola and ask if the rights are for sale :) I'd like to know how much that would cost.

BE SURE you or your neighbors have not left a radar detector powered on inside a car near your property because the local oscillator emissions will kill your KU band reception.

I always bring this up when someone is having ku issues.

I had the problem once and after re aligning my dish a dozen times and tweaking the focal point and going over all the connections, I simply went out to my truck and pulled the cigarette lighter cord out of the lighter outet and I had perfect KU reception.

Good luck-trucker

Truckracer, you are so right about the radar detector. A few years back I was having trouble with intemitant lost signals on FTA. Some smart person on this board told about the detectors.
Damn fast GTO,I dragged raced back in the early 50s. Couldnt buy fast cars then, you had to build them. I installed 49 OLDs engine in 49 Ford. What fun.
After checking my back posts, I find that you were the smart member that helped me fix my 4 months of good signal then no signal. John

I spent several weeks trying to find out if it was possible to convert a ASI or SD output to a HSI input (as used in the HDD-200/201).

Let's remember that even though its properiatary, Motorola does not use it in anything now and has no plans to ever use it again.

I spoke with so many people around the country - both at Motorola and those who actully worked with it and had since left Motorola.

There was even a high level person at Motorola who had tried to get them to release the code specs before and stated he would try again.....all to no avail.

Supposedly the stream is not very complicated for someone with some techical skills - but they still have the rights to it - and even though its dead - won't do squat to release the specs.

So what chance do you think we'd have with 4DTV code :(

Galaxy-16 Ku-band for those HITS feeds are strong you should get 99 quality on all of them, what kind of lnb do you have? many low cost lnb's will act up when its very hot or cold, do you have dvb slaved? was your dvb ku feed also having issues? also what about all the other ku channels on 4dtv did you have problems with them also?
