I'm thinking of coming back to Direct after several years with all this talk about the new HD channels etc. What is the typical setup that is being used these days as far as the dish and receivers? Will the dishes they are installing now handle the new satellites? I'd be interested in 2 HD receivers, so what would be needed as far as any switches go? I know Direct will handle anything I need, but I just like to know what to expect! Also I might have a tree problem with these new birds. Can anyone give me the aiming info for the dish...zip 11758...this way I can see which of my neighbors trees I need to cut down :D Thanks!

All new installs are new 5lnb dish.H20 is a HD receiver,HR-20 is a HD DVR receiver. The new dish has a multi switch built in ,you can hook up to 4 D10,D11,D12 for SD programming, and 4 H20 for HD programming. Now if you want DVR you can only hook up to 2 R15 for SD programming or 2 HR-20 for HD. and these are your Dish settings 62 tilt,,35 Elevation and your Azimuth is 232 all in degree. Have fun!

I would recommend getting the standard Zinwell WB68 multiswitch when the dish is installed. This would give you up to 8 total lines, which will help if you upgrade to the 2-line DVR's in the future. The 119° satellite usually gives most of the sight problems. The new HD channels will be in the 99° and 103° slots, so they will be close to the base 101° sat. :)

Hi, if I may join ...

One thing I like to know is when they install a multi-sat dish like the slimline, which sat (9x, 101, etc) do they aim primarily? I suppose when the primary sat gives a great strength everything else would fall in place, huh? Meaning, you can't adjust others without knocking a perfect signal of one out of place.

The new 5 LNB dishes are aimed at 101, The previous 3 LNB dishes are aimed at 110.

Suggestion: wait until D*10 is successfully launched in June before switching. It is only about a month of waiting, if D*10 dosen't launch D* will be stuck with the 7 channels they currently have. The advertising HYPE is conditional on that 1 satellite succesfully launching.:)

On the flip side, if you wait on the launch, and everything goes as scheduled, there will be a high demand for the new HD dish and receivers. This will probably cause a backlog with the hardware and it will take longer to get an install scheduled. :)
