Worth doing?

I'm wanting to upgrade to HD, but dish wont lease me two HD-DVR's...

I bought two HDTVs, and want HD-DVRs in both rooms, not sure one. Dish wants to lease me one and make me buy the other..

F* that noise...

Thoughts?

I think you have to do some side by side comparison and see which one will fit your household. Compare programming, costs, installation, availability of locals, the future of HD, the cost of initial setup, etc.

D* has some great deals to start up new customers and will try to lure you with deals but they want you around with a 2 year commitment. Where are you with E* and will they allow you to get out of contract with low cost? We can certainly answer questions here to see which one might end up with the best configuration.

I believe our contract with dish is up..

All I'm wanting is two freakin HD-DVRs.. It's like pulling teeth.

If I were you, I'd try to stick it out until D10 get's launched and into orbit, because if thay fails then you're looking at sometime in 2008 before any new HD channels come your way. Which is also about the same time E*'s supposed to have their new MPEG4 only DBS service starting up which might provide more then D* and give upgrades for existing E* MPEG2 custumers to switch.

This is all so confusing, it's giving me a headache.

They definitely wont be both free. So his E* offer might not look so bad when he compares.

He may regret going with Dish later when Directv puts up all those HD channels.

True but he seems pretty ticked at E* right now so it just might be as simple as he likes E* but just wants free HD DVRs. And E* is planning to catch up on HD channels beginning next year with launch of new sat December or early next year. I just think folks have to do some cool headed analysis and not react because its not as easy as flipping a switch. Contracts are involved, costs, differences in hardware, software even what is today wont be tomorrow.

Yeah, going from one to another takes time to get used to the other.

I would escalate this matter to ceo@echostar.com. They may be able to give you a better deal on the 2nd 622 than a CSR could.

Dude is in denial!
Not in denial, just realistic. Until those channels go on air, no one will be able to broadcast them. Hopefully, those announced channels will begin broadcasting in HD in September. Then D* and E* can begin offering them to customers. Until then, they are just smoke or vaporware.

And no content provider is going to start a new HD service if nobody's going to carry it. Now if E* does have extra capacity now to add new HD channels why didn't E* go out and negotiate for these new channels, which D* did? Guess we'll just have to wait until D10 go active to see who's right on this.

I would keep your current Dish service ,untill you see what happends when Directv gets the new HD. Because you never know!! If then you want to switch?I bet Directv will have some real good deals then. They have to pay for these Satellites some how. More customers is the only way I could think of.
