Hi-

Had some questions that were only answered with: "Don't worry, the installer will take care of everything, you don't need to worry." No offense to any installers, but I don't like opening my home to someone, if I have no clue as to what they may be doing. Someone on the RV forum suggested posting here. I would appreciate any help. The dish would be going on a house in Denver.

1- I don't want the dish on the back of my house, but rather on the gable end on the side. I also want it mounted to the Fascia or siding, not to the metal roof. That area has a greater distance to the trees to the south of my house and is not 8' above my patio. If I request to the installer that the dish be put there, will the installer honor my request? Are there any reasons other than no view of the satellite that would make my desired location not functional?

2- What wires/cables/? will run from the dish to the distribution panel?

3- I currently have a single RG6 quad shielding cable running from my distribution panel to each TV. Will they need anything else run?

4- Will they need power at the distribution panel?

5-If I get a hopper/joey, is there any way to make sure that if I DVR a show that my 6 year old can't view it on the tv in the basement?

6-We have 6 TV's and sometimes they are all being used on different channels. Will I need more than 1 dish?

7-Do satellite boxes still need a phone line at each box?

8-Will they ever come out with a wi-fi type set up so that there are not wires running all over the house?

9-Will the installer cut off the ends of the cables and install their own wires like Direct TV did when they installed a dish at my parents?

10-Will the installer run the wires through the attic ( 7 foot high, flat wood floor ) to a PVC chase to the basement instead of running it on the siding outside down to the rim board?

11-Would a 6-pack of beer or a tip aid in ensuring things run smoothly?

I would appreciate any help with these questions that you can give me. I do not mean to sound distrusting, I just do 90% of the work on my home myself and prefer it that way. I don't mind having people do things I can't or am not allowed to ( warranty repairs ), I just don't want another guy like the dishwasher repair man that was here last month. He didn't have a torx set in his tool box. He also didn't know how to remove the front panel of the dishwasher. Luckily, I had a torx set and knew where all the screws and tabs were so he would not have to come back. Anyway, as I said, I would appreciate any insight you could provide.

Thanks

Navy,, not to confuse the matter, but it sounds like the Holland Splitter is being used as a diplexor and the incoming sat feed and the tv backfeed are on the same cable back to the Holland, so she would need to split to her other tv's after the Holland splitter and not behind the receiver at the Home Distribution Port (channel 21-69 output). My guess is there is another Holland splitter and a Separator behind the receiver in her daughters room She said there was 1 incoming cable to a junction with an 8 way splitter that fed each other room.

Sheila with this setup you can still only watch 2 live channels at the same time, it's just all the other tv's will have access to whatever is being watched. You would still need another Satellite Receiver if you are wanting to be able to watch 3 separate channels at the same time on 3 different tv's.

Satellite and Cable work totally different. They are different types of broadcast transmission that are not interchangeable. Take some pictures of the Dish splitter and take a picture of the wiring behind the 222K with a phone or something and post them, as there should be a separator and diplexor behind the 222k (they look like splitters but are not) . You cant replace the dish equipment with the cable splitter. They are different technologies inside and are NOT interchangeable. They perform different functions.

disconnect the coax from the Dish Diplexor (splitter) that goes to your office. connect it to your old cable splitter and then connect a short piece of coax between the cable splitter input and the now empty connection on the Dish Diplexor (splitter). If all your other tv's are still connected to the cable splitter, then go and tune them to whatever channel your office tv is tuned to for receiving the dish signal. You can then take the TV 2 remote around the house with you to the other tv's and watch Dish on the TV 2 output. All of those tv's will only be able to watch the same Dish channel though. They will not be able to independently tune and watch something different at the same time on them

As it is now, my daughter can watch one tv station while I watch another one. I did find this by searching on the internet. You an click on the various names (diplexer, splitter, etc.) and maybe tell me what I need. I think I must currently have a diplexer. http://www.mydish.com/support/signal-flow-signal-flow-devices-diplexer?WT.svl=leftnav

Thank you. This is what I wanted to do. Now the other problem...for the life of me, we can't get that coax disconnected from the diplexer. We have tried and tried, and it just won't unscrew. (no, we're not turning it the wrong direction.) Do you think it was maybe soldered on there? I can't imagine why in the world it won't unscrew!

Try a 7/16 open end wrench or a pair of pliers. The tech may have tighten it slightly so you can't undo it by hand

Yeah, I've tried both. Just can't seem to turn it at all. In fact, some of the metal came off when trying to unscrew it.

Corrosion.

Cut it off and put a new fitting on.

I think they were more of a transitional receiver bridging the VIPs to the Hopper. They were a PITA to install and were buggy. Personally, I thought at the time that they were the best receiver out there. The versatility of the VIP's with the new Hopper GUI and, by far, the coolest-looking front plate and lighting.

Well if it is because of reliability that wouldnt shock me.I went through 5 or 6 of them in little over 2 years. I loved the Sling when it worked! Saved lots of money having it in the day. That was probably 15 or 16 years ago?

I don't recall that they came out just before hopper, but rather that they came out even before 722. Or could be thinking of 921.

As to the title pf the post, "rare" does not necessarily mean valuable or desirable.

You are thinking of the 921. The 922 was the first DVR with Sling functionality built in (that was eventually disabled along with the Sling Adapter for the 722s and the 1st Hopper because they relied on now-defunct Adobe Flash technology). With the bugginess described by others and the removal of its marquee feature (Sling) the 922 faded into obscurity once the Hopper 2 with built in Sling was released and they finally made the concept into a fully functional product.

I had one, the front panel lighting was cool, the menus were fresh and a lot more modern looking than the ViPs. However, it was very buggy and the Sling functionality just didn't work well - I think it was due to internet speeds at the time. I think I had to pay $40 for the Sling app on my phone iirc.

I had both the 921 and the 922. I used to buy them from DishDepot.com in Florida and trade in my older owned receiver towards the newest receiver. The 921 was a reboot receiver and the sling part was hit or miss. I look back on all those receivers I paid for over 25 years and I think it was just TV. If I had that money back now I would be lot richer. My Owned Hopper 3 is sitting in a drawer in my office not being used.

I'm surprised Walmart hasn't banned this guy from all of their stores. He has been on their CASE the past few months.

When walmart set a price...they weigh the container and the product...the product label only shows the weight of the product...I am sure if you brought your own plastic baggies to bring the product home you could get the cheaper price

Walmart isn't the only one ...
I've been seeing this more and more on Amazon. Sometimes it seems there is no way they could have arrived at the number.

What rankles me even more is Costco changing units of measure between similar products, so you have to convert them to compare prices.

Then they are stupid. Everyone knows that the price per ounce should be the price per ounce of actual product.

Bone-in is a well-known and often prized attribute. Adding the tray and the film isn't right.

Sometimes a thread gets so many posts in it that is can cause issues for the server so that why today we introduce The Song Name Game Part 3!

So let the game continue!

The last song was added by Bobby who posted...

One Meat Ball - Andrews Sisters

CONTINUE ON AND HAVE FUN! WELCOME HOME TO SATELLITEGUYS.US!

Here are the original rules for the game as posted by WebbyDude back in 2006. http://www.satelliteguys.us/threads/68645-Song-Name-Game

Just name a song title and the band who performed it. The next person does the same thing, but needs to list a song title or band name which includes a word from the previous entry. Pick songs from any genre.

Example:

Long Live Rock and Roll -- Rainbow

Rainbow in the Dark -- Dio

Another example:

Ride the Lightning -- Metallica

Lightning Strikes -- Ozzy Osbourne

Get it?

An additional note: we all know that song titles, sometimes, use profane words. Because this is a family friendly website it is advised that you clean up that title up a bit. This is accomplished by using something like sh!t instead of the real word. Thanks....

It turns out I was justified in my suspicion.

Gavin Newsom somehow authorized the temporary move of the distribution date of the Winter blend to September 28th.

Does that raise, or lower, the overall price? Our State Government has been doing everything it can to minimize the impact of the current situation and put a freeze on the State Taxes on fuel sales at the pump. That's why we're still under $4.00/gal. while across the border in Michigan it's much higher.

Winter blend is reportedly 10-30 cents cheaper, but I would point out that prices have dropped as much as 62 cents at RP.

Every time my Dish contract comes up I weigh the options of keeping Dish or switch to streaming. Right now I can watch/record the OTA channels vis my HDHomerun. I also can stream CBS and NBC via the Paramount+ and Peacock apps. What I would need to find is how to watch the Food Network, HGTV, Syfy, USA, Hallmark channels, Great American Family, Lifetime channels plus a few more with an app or two. My current Dish bill is $118, so I should be able to get a few apps for a lot less.

Any suggestions? I would want the best picture quality and audio quality I could get.

For some reason, the satelliteguys.us site is loading a lot slower than usual on both Chrome on my Asus laptop and Safari on my iPhone.
I'm also seeing longer appearances of the blue bar at the top and the "3 blue bars" loading symbol.
Is anyone else also having the same problem? Thanks in advance.

Ok checked it out and for some reason the web server (NGINX) tried starting before the DNS resolver fully loaded. This is why it worked when I rebooted the machine.

Thanks to ChatGPT it had me change the NGINX config to prevent this from happening again.

With that said I can't prevent the ISP from doing emergency upgrades which was the cause of all of this.

I know the Wild are in dispute and a slate is on 668-1.
