did you ever find out how to get a hr10-250 for less than $199.00 ? im tempted to make a offer on ebay for that info but its probally just someone telling you to call the retention dept. ? any ideas ?

I use to work for a directv retailer and the hr10-250 looks good, but I was noticing that dish network has an HD/DVR with the same capabilites for a flat $199 upgrade fee (no need to buy a book from eBay just to call the directv retention #) plus $100 back in free programming. I was doing some research on dish's version today and it supports 1080i resolution with the same size hard drive and recording capabilities as the hr10-250. Just a thought, but I'm interested enough that I'm going to give them a call to get more details, 'cause it looks like dish offers a ton more HD channels too! Don't know if this helps or not, but thought I'd try. You could try allamericandish.com or allamericandirect.com to get more info. That's where I was looking... Good luck! :up

After calling for 2 days and making numerous calls, I finally got a Retention Specialist to give me the HD Tivo for free and the only charge to me is the shipping. Glad to pay it since they are also going to give me the new multiswich for the 5 LNB dish
I had 3 retention specialists tell me the best they could do was to give me the unit for $150.00 and that the special was onlt for re-newing ST subscribers.
So keep at it and you'll be rewarded.

Just got off the phone with Customer Retention roulette. On the third try, I got another HD-DVR for $21 and change for shipping. Just keep trying.
As I mentioned here, I got it for just the S&H with no ST req.
However, I was going through my mail and received a piece from D* that said "enhance your television experience with a complimentary D* receiver"
It goes on to say that if you get ST I could get a basic receiver, the R20 or the HR10-250 as a comp. It says the offer is non-transferable, but it also gives the promotion code NFL4U2 to enter on their website. May be worth a try for those having trouble.
Also worth mentioning that when I called they kept saying "Ah, I see you are an anniversary customer." I am not certain what that means other than I have had the service in my apt for about a year now. I just said yes and acted like it was something of significance. Good luck.

I called today and asked what was offfered for the HDTivo unit. They said $400 first, then it came down to $399, and I asked about other offers and they said no, I called back and got some clown who got $150 off the $299 price and I asked anything better, flat NO. I asked about the NFL deal, he said there wasnt any, I asked for retention and I got cut off. I got retention on the phone and talked to them. The best he could do was $299 and nothing else for a HDTivo unit. He said that these were being rid of for the new units soon. But would record HD but not OTA HD. He also said get the HD recv. and use my STD dtvTivo to record everything???
I told him that others were almost giving away HDTivo units, so why he cant he? No answer. Oh well one more try later and see what I can get. I asked him about the NFL thing and he said thats only a HD rec'r and not a recorder, HEY about about a deal, no way.

keep trying, at some point you should get a free hdtivo. also to correct the csr, it will record ota but will not work for the new mpeg4 channels. it will still decode anything that is curently on directv
