I gues I am confused. What are you trying to do? Watch previously recorded programs on a box that is not activated by DirecTV? You can do that on the box itself if you restart and cancel the setup process during reboot when it's checking system settings. As far as MRV goes, you have to download the CE software to get MRV, and I would be surprised if you could download a software update on an unactivated box.

I think you can do a download on a box that isnt activate. My recollection (which may be faulty) is that my installer set up and powered on the boxes and did the 02468 to force a download, and when they were done starting up he called in the activation, and a few seconds later the picture came up.
