Got an email from Tachyon (a commercial satellite internet provider) saying that they were going to be moving from AMC-4 to Galaxy 16 starting next month.

After doing some research it seems that SES American is going to be launching a replacement for AMC-4 (called AMC-4R for now) early next year. AMC-4 was launched in 1999, guess it didn't make it's 15 year expected lifetime.

They'll use AMC4 until the new one is in place. Right now 101W C & KU is split between AMC4 & AMC2 which is also there

Unless the sat blows up or has a failure (hope not), nothing we need to worry about :)

yep, AMC-4 won't make it to its design life. AMC-4 experienced a lot of solar array issues, limiting its power, and AMC-2 had to come help out. I can't wait for AMC-4R because it should be more powerful on all tr's and it may free up AMC-4 and AMC-2 to serve in other places to make more capacity (read: hopefully more video or occ video feeds) available in the arc.
