Answers to your Hopper Questions

1) Not yet, it will act like two seperate networks.

2) Yes

3) I dont remember... (and my EHD is unplugged at home so I can't test it now while I am at work.) Perhaps someone else can answer this one.

My Hopper questions.

I apologize if they've been answered. I tried my best to read all 32 pages.

1. In a 2 Hopper/2 Joey setup, are the Hoppers integrated with each other yet? Will my setup appear to be a 6 tuner setup? Will PTAT only need to be enabled on one Hopper, thus giving us 5 available tuners during PT?

2. Will the Wi-Fi adapters that work with the 722 receiver also work with the Hopper? Will only having one Hopper connected to the internet allow all receivers to view online content or does each Hopper and Joey needs it's own connection.

3. Are you able to view external hard drive content via dish online with a sling adapter?

Thanks in advance for your answers. I'm sorry in advance for anything that's already been answered! I'm coming from a 922 and two 722 system. I don't care that much about OTA and my 2 Hopper/2 Joey setup will be installed on 3/24. I can't wait!

1) No, not integrated yet. In the current setup, PTAT won't be seen on the second hopper until a later firmware update. If you want PTAT on both, you'll have to activate it on both for the time being.

2) Probably, although hardwiring directly to hopper or via the Hopper Internet Connector is still preferred over those.

3) I'll leave the EHD question for an expert....

So if they don't see each other yet, how will the Joeys see them? Will I have to designate witch Joey sees witch Hopper? If so, is it software driven or is it how they're installed?

yes, it's paired in the software. As to how exactly, i'm not sure as most techs/retailers only got duo nodes within the last day.

I'm sure there will be reports with a detailed 2 hopper activation and setup soon though....

Can PTAT be customized or is it either on or off ? Reason I ask is we record (let me check my timers).... boy it's really, really slow (online).... Well, from memory, my wife records Desperate Housewives and Grey's Anatomy. I don't recall anything else.

Can I specify PTAT to only run on Sunday and ?? or is it all or nothing ? I do realize I have the option to turn it off and use standard timers, of course.

Yep, all or nothing. You can turn it on or off each morning, depending on if you want to record anything that night, but honestly, it doesn't sound to me like it's worth the trouble in your situation. I would just set normal timers, if I were you.

Can you watch a program that is being recorded in the PTAT without tying up an additional tuner? With either a Hopper or Joey or even both.

you can watch all four broadcast networks on PTAT while they are being recorded and it will only use the reserved single tuner. The other two tuners would be open for viewing/recording other live programs.

has this been real-world tested? chase play the PTAT recordings while being recorded, or have to wait until the PTAT block is finished, or at least the individual program is completed?

Not sure why you seem to have an affinity with tin foil...Do you work for Reynolds Wrap??

It was a legitimate question and I'm glad to see it apparently is not going to be a concern...:up
I would not throw that hat away yet the web site will not allow two hopper till you exceed 4 tvs
save the foil till we see some post on activations of two hoppers no joeys

I went thru 3 CSRs before one figured how to give me two hoppers and one Joey. It can be done.

PMed DIRT no 2 hopper, 0 joeys. So I will try 2 hoppers, one joey.

I wanted 2 hoppers alone, and was basically forced into 2 hoppers and 2 joeys also. Hoping i can send one back at some point, I really dont want to pay an extra $7 if i dont have too. Not sure how well versed the reps are so far, so i hope it will calm down soon and we csan get some solid information.

If this sticks, I might not move to H/J. But I might be persuaded to go with 2 Hoppers and 1 Joey. A 2H/2J minimum will ensure I keep my two ViP722s for a long, long time. I might pay for a Joey for my in-laws visits for the TV next to their bedroom. But to pay for that, AND a Joey in a (very) lightly used exercise room - that's too much. Those are the only TVs in the house. 2 HD, 2 SD.

Well, Hopper/Joey isn't for everyone. At least not yet, nor in the foreseeable future, anyway.

I still don't see them making you return a Hopper once you've paid the $100 for it if you call up in a couple weeks and want to drop a Joey. Whether you're at 2H/2J or 2H/1J at the time. I wouldn't completely rule it out, but wouldn't expect it.

Time will tell.

Why does DISH give new customers sweet deals, and always sticks it to current, long-time customers?

A DISH rep just told me I have to pay $99 for Hopper [DISH Hopper upgrade page does not mention that], No free Joey [DISH Hopper upgrade page says one free, 2nd $7], and there is an additional $99 installation fee [DISH Hopper upgrade page does not mention that either].

You guys asked so we submitted DISH a list of the 15 best questions that you our members asked! (Many of the questions submitted were of the same nature or would be answered if other previously asked questions would be answered.

Our thanks to DISH for fielding the questions and taking the time to reply!

So here we go..

DISH answer your Hopper questions!

1) How many timers/events are allowed with a hopper? Same as the VIP, with 96 timers and 576 events. Though PTAT reduces the number of timers needed since those shows are recorded with that system.

2) Are ALL outputs live on the hopper? Yes

3) What are the operating and standby power draws (watts) for the hopper and joey? Not published yet.

4) Can multiple remotes be tied to one Hopper or a Joey? Yes

5) Is the upgrade offer available for Puerto Rico? Yes

6) When can we call and order? Do we have to wait to the 15th or can we call and order now for an install on the 15th? Call and order on the 15th.

7) What is the retail price of a Duo Node box? MSRP is $60.00

8) When will OTA be supported? This summer.
Is DISH looking at a single or dual tuner solution for OTA? TBD.

9) Will the USB wi-fi connector work with the hopper? Yes

10) If I upgrade am I subject to a new 2 year commitment? Yes, standard upgrade

11) Question about PTAT. If I currently have a timer for Fringe on Fox, will I still need a timer on the Hopper to have Fringe automatically move to my part of the hard drive, or is the only way to save that recording to manually move it myself?
If you have a timer on Fringe it will save to the DVR. Will still use only PTAT tuner.

12) Aside from the $99 upgrade fee for current customers, is there any installation fee? What if you have/add the protection plan? I am checking on this for you.

13) What will be the retail price for extra 40.0 remotes? MSRP is $20.00

14) In a two-Hopper, four-Joey installation (at March 15 launch), will having a home phone line connected to only one of the two Hoppers enable Caller ID alerts on all six HDTVs? Not sure. Checking on this.

15) Which Apps will be available at launch? Will Pandora and Facebook be available at launch? Pandora and Facebook are under certification. Once certified they will be available, but we may miss 3/15.

If you read the new upgrade page with confirmed info (The free 1st Joey was just a rumor) it would have confrmed the prices the rep gave you. You could always add the Protection Plan which will reduce the install fee to $15, and then remove it later.

Agree, I would say the Hopper Upgrade page on the Dish site is very up front. The comparison with a 722 is well laid out and clearly shows the monthly fee difference between a 722 and a 1H/1J setup without any spin.

The initial equipment fees are not spelled out, but it does say "Call to upgrade your equipment. Fee(s) will apply." Whenever I see something like that I know what to expect.
