on the news this morning they said the ifold was missing biometrics and something else.. i
The iPhone Duo has a Fingerprint sensor on its Power Button, much like the iPads and some other phones. It doesn't have FaceID, if that's what you mean. Another reviewer pointed out that the Duo is hostile to left-handed users, as the design and UI are designed for holding it in your right hand.

Reminds me how inept I am at using a phone. I'm right handed, I hold my phone in the left hand and use my right hand to operate it. So, in my case the Duo is hostile to right handed users. Then again, I don't spend much time with it in either hand. Does that make me a dinosaur?

I watch a lot of Marques Brownlee videos. He operates his phone one handed and types with his thumbs, but his thumbs are like 5 inches long.

The SLAM XCAM is an android phone, but I don't connect it to a phone carrier. My whole use is to shoot 8K VR180 3D. Do a search on the SLAM XCAM to see how it is different from a traditional android phone.
I also use a large format camera, the Canon R5C with dual fisheye lens. It uses high speed CF $torage. Takes 2TB size cards. But I use the XCAM when I need a durable small camera I can carry in my pocket. I'll use the Canon rig when I need higher quality such as a stage performance where I will tripod it or move with it on a large Gimbal.
The iphone 15PM, has apps to transfer 4K video I record with my Rokid or Meta glasses. These transfer the video to the iphone via wifi while shooting as they have very limited video storage in the glasses. I recorded up to 45 minutes video and then the phone was full.

I had a Brownie camera I could point and click….

Could you connect the SSD to the phone and direct the apps to save the data there in real time? Bypass the phone storage
There is a USB-C storage device you can plug in but when I tried that the app to off load the video files connecting the glasses via wifi, puts them into the Photos library. There are no options to save to an external drive. That transfer would need to be done separately. There are several tricks to record video all day long by keeping the glasses powered by additional batteries on the stem or a cable plugged into your iphone. Without the download of the video files, the storage in the glasses is about 13 minutes of video.

If you can't make or receive calls or texts from it, it is not a phone.
Technically, it is an android phone but lacking a SIM or eSIM cannot be connected to cellular service. It can work as a wifi connected communication device. You can use Wi-Fi calling or internet-based apps but I have not tested this claim from their tech support. My only interest is for shooting 3D VR180 8K.

Used the Apple Store App to set up the iphone 18PM 1TB. Got a notice to finalize the order and charge to my Apple Card tomorrow between 8-8:30 to reserve my iphone order.

The Apple Care+ appears to be changing on the 19th. I already have 3 of my devices on it so I'll just add the 18 when it is here.

Looking over the social media, I was surprised at how thrilled so many are about the Duo. It just seems awkward to me. I wonder how many apps will have display problems or did Apple handle all that with their Duo OS? If the foldable phone is the way of the future, I guess I'll just be a luddite and stick to the iphone traditional form factor. Has never been a problem. Even my wife adapted to the 17Pro from her mini. She has an ipad and since the 17Pro, never uses the ipad.

I saw a comment from a reviewer who said, "The iPhone Duo is not the iPhone I need, but it's the one I want." Watching some of the videos of it in operation, it seems like they have a competent product which addresses some of the issues seen with other folding smartphones.

But it still isn't clear why I should buy it instead of the phone I bought a few months back. Even using the argument of it being both an iPhone and and iPad mini, I can buy one of each and still come out ~$400 ahead.

I think it looks like a fun piece of hardware to play with, but the price is just stratospheric for me. I would probably pay $1000 for it, but i've never used a folding phone and I'm not sure I would even like using it as my daily. I'm a musician when I'm not working full
time, I could maybe see an argument for it if it's big enough to read sheet music off of... most of my colleagues use iPad Pro's for that

Just tried to complete my preorder and got all the way to the double click and the system immediately said "Failed." Your card will not be charged. Please try again later.
Waited a couple minutes and same fail.
Called Apple support and got the automated answer asked me several questions and then got a response call wait time is greater than one hour.
Tried 4 more times to complete and finally, the double click was a success. Received the order number.

A You Tuber advised these failures are common and just to keep trying until it goes through.

I wonder how many buyers give up and Apple loses sales.

FYI- you will have to pay the sales tax up front on the two year monthly installments. I also noticed that Apple charged my Apple Card for the sales tax when I placed the preorder as "pending" and then again this morning when I completed the order. I'll be watching this to be sure one of those charges is removed.

I was on the fence on which Watch to upgrade to from my Ultra 1 and I keep leaning back towards the Series 12 since the only feature the Ultra 4 has that I'd like is the longer battery life, but I also charge my Watch every night so that may not be a thing. I keep going back to the dark bronze color and I like the Milanese band that goes with it.

We just pre-ordered my wife's Series 12 which is going to be a very good upgrade over her Series 7.

Seeing what the 18 Pro Max has to offer really has me happy I ordered my 17 Pro Max when I did as I am very happy with it. I couldn't justify the extra $100 even if I had waited a few months.

We went to the Apple Store nearest to us this morning and I was a little surprised that they had none of the newly announced products out for viewing and demoing. We were there to see what size Apple Watch my wife preferred because her current Series 7 is the 45mm and she wanted to compare between the 42mm and 46mm as well as look at the colors of the cases in person. At least the Series 11 which they still had on display is the same size and she prefers the smaller 42mm so that's what we preordered her Series 12 as.

Were they still selling the Series 11, maybe for a discount over the Series 12?

Marques Brownlee sat down with Craig Federighi to ask about the iPhone Duo and the philosophy of some of the features that Apple developed for the product.

That's a good question, and I didn't even think to ask since we were so focused on finding the right size for her with the plan on preordering the Series 12. The employee who helped us didn't mention once about the Series 11 being discounted, he just answered questions we had and made some suggestions of what he's seen other customers consider with getting a particular size and material. He even told us what he was planning on preordering for the Series 12 since I had mentioned I was soon the fence on the material and color. He did show us the Milanese bands and both my wife and I decided we would be getting those bands with our new Watches. We currently use the textile sport loop which surprisingly has held up for 4 years so far despite the occasional cat claw encounter and just everyday use.

Will you buy an Apple Watch?
