I do not know how to archive from the hard drive on my DishDVR 522. I would like to place data on one (1) of my computer's hard drives or dvd's, or if required I would put info on a stand alone dvd recorder. I don't know how to get data out of the 522 and even if I did, I'd have problems getting it on my computer unless I can use USB 2.0 transmission. Even if the port USB port were available on the 522, I do not have or know where to obtain the software required to make it work.

At present the only way to archive anything on the 522/921 DVR is to use the standard RCA/S-Video output to a Video Capture card in your computer which you then in turn can burn to a DVD or VCD.

Newegg has a card for $36. Software incl.

The data on the DVR is encrypted and there is no short term plans to enable the USB for archival purposes.

D*, E*, or Comcast? Opinions wanted.
