Seems it only took a few (well more than a few recently) to cause AVSforums to lock down the HD movie forums for a bit.

Too bad as I was just getting into more areas of their site and that area was one of my favorites.

But what it did do was make me thing about us here at satguys and how fairly civil everyone here is almost 99% of the time. Sure every now and then some here do go overboard, but I don't think I have ever seen anyone threaten physical violence or really even personally attack another member here. I guess I am just glad that while we have some die hard HD-DVD and BD fans, everyone is decent enough (at least that I have seen) to keep it non-personal.

Honestly it's great to debate and root for your team or both or whatever, but keeping it civil is crucial. Like my debate teacher told me many years ago... "Once you lose your control, you lose the debate no matter how accurate your facts" and sadly some over at AVS cannot control their temper.

I really dont get what the big deal is over the formats, the only thing I would want is a single format for starters and no title exclusivity to any single format until there is either one format or a multi format player out there so exclusivity wouldnt be an issue.

I like both format for recording my HD content. That's what I am waiting for. I want better than a stand alone player. If it wasn't for my ps3 I woundn't have blu-ray. Soon there will be a recorder for the tv in both format and then I will take the plunge.

Don't hold your breath. The studios will have an absolute fit if HD recorders show up here.

I really don't understand why folks run discussion forums only to lock them down and not let folks people have discussions in them.

Yes you have folks who go overboard, even here we see it, but most have learned who to ignore and carry on where we have some very valid conversations.

I personally have both Blu-ray and HDDVD at home and I love them both. I just wish both of them would offer a better selection of movies. ;)

I wish Transformers was in Blu-ray. Oh well. :)

I wish Casino Royale and Daddy's Little Girls were available on HD-DVD. Thems the breaks for those of us who are non-purple. Of course, let's cut the crap. All of these titles are available on SD DVD which all of the players (save the 360 add-on) upconvert just fine.

I have an HD-DVD player for HD-DVD Movies
I have a Blu-Ray player for Blu-Ray Movies

Many good movies on each format ... much "trash" also.

It's a game for billions of dollars ... folks shouldn't take it personally (unless they are major stockholders in either Toshiba or Sony :))

Did you read their explanation ? I think they're an arrogant bunch over there but they have to draw the line somewhere...

I'm sure it didn't happen a lot (I never saw such a post), but they said this:
...we really do not like how the members are acting as of late. We have until now tried to deal with it as we can, but now it has come to this. We have seen members attacking other members not only in debate, which is the right way, but with physical threats that have involved police and possible legal action. This type of behavior is just not welcome here PERIOD. To the extent that some of you have gone to support either format is just, well, disgusting and has no place on this site. The amount of misinformation posted here and other places on-line HELPS NO ONE.
Physical threats over a format choice someone made ? Give me a f*cking break ! If people are going to act like children, treat them like children. Take away something they like (the discussion forums at AVS).
