The format wars may have a front runner

Now that the major studios have settled on which format they’re going to support, consumers have started to make some decisions about whether they’re going to buy Blu-Ray or HD-DVD. In Japan, Blu-ray currently stands out as the clear winner. Reportedly, ninety percent of the devices purchased in Japan in a three-month period at the end of 2007 were Blu-ray devices. Supposedly that number doesn’t include purchases of Sony’s PS3 which offers Blu-ray capability.

Im sure this will get moved to the war zone, BUT BD has been stomping HDDVD in Japan for awhile.

I don't think its major because if Im not mistaken, Japan is a very small pc of the pie. The fact BD is improving in the US and Europe is key.

Exactly... terrible analogy. Betamax, laserdisc and VCD were big in Japan, too. It's been 90:10 there for like a year.

HD DVD's big stand was in the US. Honestly, the war was never really fought in Europe as HDTV penetration in Europe is like 5 years behind the US.

Countries are turning blu in Europe.
