Cancelling Service--procedures

No, I was mislead; I distinctly remember asking about the DVR and if I owned it or if I had to send it back if I canceled service after the contract; I was assured that as long as I was out of contract, if I canceled, I would still get to keep the DVR.

not a misconception, again, I was misled.

If you didn't PAY for it, you do not own it. Charlie doesn't do "free."

Not to sound cold but who cares just return it, you say your canceling the service anyways. Everyone here has said that the first recvr is free, but you keep rambling about being mislead what is your point are you planning on coming back or as Kab said are you trying to sell it?
Just send the thing back and be done with it ...
 
This does bring up a good point though. A lot of people probably don't bother to read the small print on the contract and since they may have paid a large fee up front, they might believe they own the equipment. E* should mark the leased receivers with "Property of Dish Network".
