Question on autopay, does EFT qualify as autopay or does it have to be done on a credit card? They list the two separately as payment options.

Thanks,
JJD

It's a great deal to be sure, but auto-pay scares me, because it would seem so hard to dispute a charge or other issue with DISH, if that's setup. I can imagine how hard it would be credited back for a disputed charge, etc, *after* they've taken your money automatically. Doesn't this make anyone else queasy?

I share some of your concern on that but you can control it by changing your account settings. Though this wouldn't help in disputing charges already in place.

No deal if you already have or had Cinemax in the last 6 months

Has anyone had any luck adding it for a penny having already had Cinemax or having had it within the last six months? I had Cinemax and when I called over to make the switch I was told cause I already had it I did not qualify. So I turned around and canceled it. No desire to pay alot of pennies for something people are paying two for over the next 2 years. Wondering if they had anything for previous customers.

Thanks & Happy New Year

Can you give me a bit more in the way of detail? I would think they'd just hit your credit card, and notify you after the fact. Is there a way to make it "semi-automatic", and somehow set a limit as to what they can charge? Or another safeguard of some kind? Then again, I guess charges could be disputed with the card issuing bank if necessary. Thanks again.

Lets hope most of us remember to cancel or downgrade prior to 1/31/10
I even put a reminder in my iPod Touch calendar so I wont forget.

Good luck getting your iPod Touch to last the next two years! Just remember, never, ever drop it.

I don't have any more details, about the only control you have on your account is what the method of payment is and the account or card information. I've been doing autopay using a credit card with Tivo and Earthlink for years without a problem though they don't vary like your sat bill can.

IIRC, you will get an email from Dish "that your statement is available online, log into Dish Network to view it, etc". You can view the statement amount and make sure it is correct, your credit card is actually charged around a week or so after your statement date so if you have any reason to question it you should have time to do so before Dish puts the charge thru. (For example, my statement is dated the 20th thru the 19th (of the following month, then the credit card is charged on the 26th or 27th of the month) I've never had a problem with Dish (about 4 + years on cc autopay) or any other legitimate service provider (newspaper, water bill, etc) trying to ding me with unauthorized charges. That said, I wouldn't give cc info to any porn providers:D, I must maintain some standards!
The only thing that would make me queasy would be worrying about someone hacking into Dish's computer system and getting ahold of sensitive info but hey, I don't have any control over that and if it happened then the cc issuer would cancel the card and send me another one.
IMO, you've actually got more leverage with a charge (assuming it's over the $50 amount so you can dispute it if need be) if there's an error.

Looks like I'm out of luck on this one, and that really bites. First, I'm still in my 3 month free HBO/Cinemax introductory period.

But, I figured I'd give it a whirl, and maybe lay a "isn't that awfully unfair" deal on the live chat rep, or some such thing. However, no matter which pull down choice I choose, I get "Currently no agents are available......." What kind of crap is this? I guess it's the holiday? I didn't think New Years Day was that big a holiday.

I'd like to at least give it a try, but no way am I calling.

I think today (12/31) is New Year's Eve day, which isn't a holiday (although some places may be off or knock off early).

Thanks very much! I'm very "OK" with online payment, and for the most part, I haven't had any problems. I guess I just feel I have more leverage when I decide if they get paid or not. Old school paranoia I guess. :) Again though, thanks for the additional info!

New Year's Day is a VERY big holiday but that is tomorrow.

Well, after all of my hesitation, I finally did it. :D I figure if the worst of my fears comes true, I'll just dump autopay and cinemax. For now though, I've already got 3 HD movies set to record that I've wanted to see for some time. And, a penny a month is hard to beat.

A Penny a month? You're getting screwed! The deal is a penny a year! So that would be 1/12 of a penny a month! :D
