Closed Captions appear only intermittently

Am watching on a Samsung Smart 65" set with built-in Genie Client hardware. The connection is via DECA (DirecTV Ethernet to Coaxial Adapter). Closed captions (CC) appear only intermittently, about 10% of the time, and only when the TV is initially turned on; any remote command like pause or FF will cause CC to go off. The TV connected to the Genie unit displays CC flawlessly. Anyone know the cause of this behavior? I've done all the reset options.
