Hi guys, I brought up an idea in the Ac3 audio puzzle post and I was wondering what you think of the idea.
It's about rental of fta units. Please post your ideas.
Hey Iceberg, if you want to split the thread of I would appreciate it.
thanks rdel

why would you want to rent an fta ird for $20/week, thats $80/m you can buy a brand new fortec mercury II for $80, or a used fortec lifetimeultra for $40

Why not spend $20 to find out if you like the unit. I would rather do that then spend $100 to $200 to find out you don't like it and that your stuck with it.

Maybe instead of renting you can purchase an FTA receiver and trade it in for a different model, and pay a restocking fee.

You want to figure out what Receiver is best for you.

Maybe you can make a post in the classified section and see if someone is willing to Swap a STB for a month, as long as nobody updates firmware, that would give others with curiosity the chance to try a different unit out.

I don't think there will ever be a Perfect STB. I think the Coolsat 5000 comes close ( I love my Coolsat ).

Now the reviews here are good, and with that said I've still purchased cheap STB not reviewed, and they don't measure up to my Coolsat.

For instance , Megasat came out with their own FTA Receiver called Comanche, overhyped on the official website as being the closest thing to HD ( not even close ) ,I picked it up for $50 including shipping , and if you never heard of it, it was probably because it had no support for hacking, and the reason I picked it up cheap.

It lacked blind scan and could not control the motor I have, I'm not upset with the purchase because It's perfect for a stationary setup, and I had hoped to review it but it just didn't measure up to Pansat , Fortec , or Coolsat .

The last thing you look forward to is reading a review on a new Inferior FTA Receiver , except to point out the obvious flaws , and help forum members in deciding what NOT to purchase. Yeah maybe if I have time some day I'll review it.

ebay is great, buy an ird, dont like it ? sell it on ebay, its amazing, an ird will get almost full price used on ebay as it will new in store. sometimes more. very wierd.

I love my mercury II for motor control and blindscan :) just wish I could export the channel lists to my dreambox, as dreambox has no blindscan I have to allways update the tp list manually :(

forget ebay... use yahoo auctions. I've never used either to sell yet, but based on what I've heard/read Yahoo Auctions is free to sell on. Ebay takes a cut, and then takes a cut on top of that if you use paypal.

Here's a good one...

Wait until the next time you hear the crying about "I LOST MY PORN!" or "I LOST MY HBO/PPV!" and pick up one of their "useless" receivers for an Andrew Jackson or two. While you're at it, pick up several different ones.

Then, when the boxes are back in demand again (which seems inevitable) and the prices go back up, sell the ones you don't want for an insane profit...

LOL Sounds like someone should own a business on Bourbon Street.:D :D :D

Nah, the only business I'd get would be from would-be hackers who would want me to program their box (because most of them are too stupid to figure it out themselves). Not enough people interested in true FTA :( ......
