Hi, I am a current Dish subscriber and former Directv subscriber. I have a summer cottage with an old Directv dish - SD only pointing to 101 sat. I currently have a VIP 211 receiver that I would like to take with me when I leave my primary residence for the summer. I was told that I might be able to repoint the dish to either the 110 or 119 sat and get some but not all of my channels without having to get a new dish. Can anyone confirm if this will work and which sat I would want to use? If this will work I have a second question. The dish on my primary residence is aimed to the eastern sats (72 & 61.5?). Do I need to change any settings on the receiver if switching sat locations or will it automatically detect the signal from a different location? Thank you!

Can't hurt to try, but would a ViP211 work with, in effect, a legacy LNB?
500 dishes are cheap, I just gave two away. But with HD capability, why not go for all three WA or duplicate your home setup? Yes, coin of the realm is involved, but you could be done with it for many years.
Or you could get a Tailgater, but I don't recommend it, since they don't seem very reliable. For a fixed location a fixed dish is best and almost certainly cheaper.

Yes 72.7 would be a better choice if he has line of sight. 61.5 is probably where his locals are located but HD programming would come off 72.7.
Thanks for the responses. I only have line of sight to the west and frankly I'm not that concerned over SD or HD in this case. I don't watch a lot of tv during the summer, but I do like to have option to stay somewhat connected. I think I will try using what I have to start with. If I were to switch it out for a 500 does anyone know if I will have to change the mast and foot - remember I'm using an original Directv dish that only picked up the 101? The best case would be to slip the 500 onto the existing mast.
as long as its 1 5/8 you should be good to swap. one thing to keep in mind is that some of the earlier dishes had a smaller than 1 5/8 diameter.
I use an old DirecTV dish on my 211 for traveling. It works fine. Point to the dish you want and enjoy.
