Dish 500 with Linear LNB for Anik F1R

Anyone ever try pointing a Dish 500 with a linear LNBF at Anik F1R for Starchoice? They use 24" dishes in Canada wonder if a D-500 would gather enough signal for me here for my 405. Anik F1R is really Hot in Chicago. Any input anyone? I may try this later this week it will be about 70 outside later this week good days coming up to tinker.

If this can work I will be able to point the second LNBF on the ADTH at something else.

DVB of CTV is 4:2:2 on Anilk, actually my Visionsat will record and view it. I want to know if anyone tried to see if there was enough signal for a Shaw (Starchoice) DC-2 receiver using a Dish 500 dish. The D-500 is about 2" smaller than what they use for the standard installation in Canada. I get a 96 Quality using 107.3 on a 6 degree offset on the ADTH 84 cm now. Im hoping for maybe 60Q.

you can use the 60e dish (32x20) in Minnesota. I did an install a few years ago for someone who got the smaller dish for a Shaw (Starchoice) subscription. The signal wasnt as strong as the 75e but it did work fine for AnikF1

All you need is an ebno of +3.0 or greater to keep the signal stable. The 20" should give you enough for the few freebies on AnikF1

Seen similar dishes here in Newfoundland to dish 500 with starchoice on them being used for it only had one lnb on them thow. Still in use, and never here's him complaining, so can't be to bad. the footprints I've seen seem to say a 1.2 meter should pull in some C band as well. if you live in the middle (general) of North America.

I'm probably going to try it. I have to find a spot that will see 107.3 here clear close to my house if possible. Im getting a +10.3 EBNO on a 6 degree offset on Knowledge on the ADTH. I know Davage was running this receiver on a 24" in Canada and getting in the 70's for Q. So I figure a couple inches shouldn't be that much worse. I want to free up my ADTH for something else if I can. Thank's Ice

almost the same:

If you have one, the DirecTV Phase III dish is mechanically a little easier to use.
Around here, they show up in dumpsters all the time.

Their LNB mounting arm is longer, allowing you to attach the LNBf easier than on the short-arm'd Dish 500.
Here's a picture of a special SL2 LNBf mounted directly onto the arm, with no more effort than drilling one hole.

Likewise, if you have a round-neck LNBf you'd like to use, any sort of small bracket or clamp will hold it right at the end of the arm just fine.
Here's just one example.

In either case, the mount can be skewed as required.
