I see many jobs where a pole was put inside of another one and bolted/screwed together. They are pretty solid most of the time.

That's cause the old primestar poles were solid... and i think the origional superdish used the same od. I couldn't rip one out with my van and a chain even one time. I've self tapped our 2.0 inside those before... it ends up working fine assuming you don't do something stupid and end up with a dish 10' in the air.

If it's a slimline dish, good luck finding a pole at Home Depot.

You can only get the exact size poles from a dealer.
Electrical supply houses sell many different diameters of conduit.
