Yep old thread is old. At any rate, I dumped the protection plan ages ago. Since I do all the work on my setups myself, the only use I would have would be to save on receiver shipping. Since (luckily) I don't have receivers fail often, I think I'd rather pay the shipping costs than hassle with the plan.
