Dish Satellite now under 5 Million subscribers/Sling under 2 Million.

Why would Musk even want them?

Why would anyone pay anything for two providers that lose a million or more subscribers every year each?
You keep asking the same things over and over again, yet your not seeing that Elon is funding Dish now, and DISh is buying things for Elon.

The satellite assets are very valuable for Elon. The technology is valuable for Elon. DISH is continuing to innovate while DIRECTV has stopped development of its Satellite hardware. DISH has a game plan and plans to be around a long time. DIRECTV will crash hard when its football season and most of their commercial customers abandon them.

My issue is that I've been with Dish for very close to two decades and the only way I can keep my bill under $200/month is to drop movie packages. I love movies, but the only one package I have left is the Starz/Encore pack and I keep renewing it at $5/mo/3-month deal. I've done numerous 2-year price lock deals, but each of the 2-year commitment is always at a higher rate. My pockets aren't all that deep... I don't want to drop Dish, but they're almost pushing me away... :(

Musk bought the spectrum from Echostar, monies from which will have to go towards the debt ( bondholders for one example).
, and DISh is buying things for Elon.
Like what?

Musk/SpaceX is doing just fine building/launching Satellites on their own, has been for many years, why would they need Echostar for that?
DISH is continuing to innovate while DIRECTV has stopped development of its Satellite hardware.

Satellite TV is on it's last gasp, DirecTV knows if it is to have any hopes, internet/skinny packs is the future.

Hence why DirecTV is building new and releasing boxes.

DISH has a game plan and plans to be around a long time.

What is it, are they going to copy DirecTV and YTTV and introduce skinny packs, hopes that stops the bleeding?

This is what they have done since 2017, when YTTV started up, go from 13.2M Subscribers (includes 11.03 million Dish/ 2.212 million Sling TV subs) to 6.63 Million ( 4.84 Million Dish
/Sling TV 1.79 million subscribers).

So the business plan is to keep losing subscribers to they are unprofitable?

YTTV in that same timeframe, went from 0 to between 11 million and 12 million subscribers, expected to be the #1 Provider by the end of 2026 ( I expect sometime in 2027).

But if want to compare DirecTV and Dish/Sling-

DIRECTV's video subscriber base was 9.7 million subscribers at the end of 3Q24.

Dish/Sling was 8.03 million (5.89 million Dish TV / 2.14 million Sling)

Now, DIRECTV 8.2 million subscribers at the end of 1Q26.

Dish/Sling-6.63M

In 6 quarters, DirecTV has lost 1.5 Million.

Dish/Sling TV 1.4 Million.

Not a big difference

Not likely, Hotels/Bars/Casino still need DirecTV for the other sports and TV Channels.

Believe we are 2-3 years away from the switchover (Sat. TV to Broadband Delivery).

Why would Elon want DISH? Really curious on that one and the answer. Is Charlie talking retirement and wants out?
Lots of satellite spectrum, many national data that will be working for a long long time, lots of technology and patients that Dish owns etc.

If you watch closely Dish is working to accumulate new satellite technologies which would be perfect in Elons pocket and they are able to buy them without much scrutiny like they would probably have if Elon purchased them.

Lots of money is already being thrown at Dish by Elon. What money is he throwing at DIRECTV?

The question isn't who would want (DiSH), but who would want it for what price. It still own satellites and orbital assignments, along with remaining auction-purchased spectrum and a nascent mobile service. Add DTV to that and it's quite a lot. DBS service could be condensed to a single platform as it dwindles off in sub #s

And again, how does that show he wants Dish TV?

How would that be good for Dish TV?

For the spectrum, not for the Television part of Echostar.

he can re purpose the sats in space plus he could do that with the ground stations. elon would be buying infrastructure. charlie is working on satellite to phone as well. dtv don't have anymore sats in there fleet whatever's left that's it. dish just launched another sat so something's up.
