Amazon's Firesticks and FireTV's have a feature called "Live" that provides a listing of the programming on many apps collated into a single menu similar to the sat and cable listings. And of course there's the voice command feature as well for quickly finding desired programs.That's what our first installer told us. the ones that still have sat t.v. are the old folks. for us the channel lineups are not there yet for one app!!!

Yes, it's very similar to cable/sat listings. At a lower price of course...So basically, your describing Cable.
There was no company that took over for TPG. TPG bought DIRECTV from AT&T and now fully owns DIRECTV.ATT didn't help it any, nor did the company that took over after TRG, (they were basically a Banker, nothing more) TGR can never remember.
