Echostar 14 update

It is notable that Spectrum 5's appeal was denied with respect to this amendment.

It is nice to see S5's phantom satellite get slapped around some. It will be interesting to see if it ever goes into service. It would be ironic if they launched, went out of business and Dish ended up buying the slot/satellite like VOOM.

Echostar was granted an amendment to the operating parameters for E14 today.

This cleans up the interference issue with some of the spot beams and everything should be good to go.

~40 days into their 60 day launch to operate license. One should expect to see it start its move to 119 any time now (assuming they have not had problems).

Good point. Might depend on how many days they want it in place before they start using it. Presumably Dish will want to do some on site testing as well to make sure orientation is correct.

Does anyone have any reason to believe S5 actually has satellites a-building?
Spectrum must produce their finished satellite by the end of November and have both satellites in operation by the end of Nov. 2012. Spectrum Five should be announcing a launch date for Spectrum 1A soon.;)

When does the FCC start accepting requests from them to delay those requirements? Does the government normally or routinely grant such extensions? Any "evidence" need to be presented by S5 in order to get such a request considered?

Any bets on S5 just quietly dissolving after November and no sat? No sat, no slot, nothing left for sale.

Echostar 14 has begin moving east.

TLE updated at 3:30 AM Mountain Time Sunday May 2.

average 17 km below geo

moving 0.23 degree/day.

Update probably caught it in transit to lower orbit.

Another TLE at 6 AM Mountain 2.5 hours after the first reporting movement.

Looks like it will be on station withing the 60 day launch and operate license period and Digi's May 21 start of transfer forcast is feasible.

STA applicaton for temporary operations withdrawn today. Apparantly the permanent MOD license issued on April 29 eliminated the need for temporary operations. No more pending issues in the system and good to go.

Thanks nelson61 and others for the updates. The sat should be on location several days before the 20th of May, so all looks very good. Ground station licenses approval was nice too.
