Echostar 16 at 61.5W

Makes sense as 77 can only be added with 61.5 in place. Are there lots of folks that cannot get 61.5 but can get 77? For me in LA 61.5 is harder to catch than 72.7 or 77. Will 61.5 have any LA spots? Since its an eastern arc, I highly doubt. I'll switch to cities on 77 until the last one goes.

I doubt dish will abandon 77 all together., they just acquired that sat few years back. It would make perfect sense to mirror international programming on 77 so people could go with a single dish setup vs having two dishes specially in apartments.

But, as you said it is unlikely much of the west coast will be put on 61.5. More of 77 capacity will go to support Mexico

I am starting to feel like something wrong with E*16. With 78 days of launch and nothing???? I know it has many spots but men. I don't remember in 16 years a bird take so long to "open up". Usually is about 45 days, this one beats it by a month. All I see is less channels in my counters. But be that maybe some country must have launched a missile and hit it by mistake. Maybe the Iranians who just launched a monkey into space.

Hidden just means hidden from non-subscribers. Those that should get them can see them.

My experience has been that at 50 dBw on the 110 spot beams I can barely get a usuable signal (25-30 on the receiver) with a 30" dish. I'm guessing you would need to use something in the 6'-8' range to pull in 45 dBw. I'm sure someone else with more experience in the out of market stuff will chime in.

Doubling the dish surface area will increase dbw by 3.

Well, that's much better news than my guess. I'll have to monkey around with that at home with my meter some day. I think mine does dbw.

Yes, the 1000.5 is a 1000.4 LNBF w/Dish 1000 Plus reflector.

With the spot I was getting on the 110 (signal of about 5 on a dish500 using the on screen meter), I was able to get 25 or so with an old super dish aimed directly at the 110 with the LNB in the center. Just 20 miles or so from my house at a friend's place even further from the spot I tried up to a 36" dish without reliable success.

That being said, if you aren't at least getting some type of signal on a standard dish you are probably going to need something pretty big to work for you.

Again, this is my experience with it so maybe someone else might have better luck than me.

Also, I don't think there's any real benefit to using the 1000+ reflector with a 1000.4 LNB. You have to use the shorter arm off the 1000.4 and basically you aren't utilizing the outer couple inches of the reflector.
