I understand that Directv is currently broadcasting on 5 satellites: 99.2W, 101W, 103W, 110W and 119W

Lyngsat shows me that the first 3 have the major programing. Correct ?

Q: are all satellites for the use of regular Directv LNBs (circular type)
Q: further I use a 4x1 Diseqc switch to combine ?

Thanks !

For the record 110 is pretty much dead, and unless your doing some sort of custom multidish setup, the au9 dish has 4 outputs which are essentially a built in multiswitch, just run the lines straight to receivers, if you are going to run swm, then best bet is to research that. The install is pretty straight forward.

From the sounds of your post (or at least how im reading it) your trying to run 5 fta dishes or similiar then combine the signals to get programming. I need a bit more clarification to figure out exactly what your trying to do.

Thanks for your great assistance. Good to know that all Directv satellites signals are for the same LNBs (standard, circular).

Due to my location I will have to use large off-set dishes (6 to 8 feet); one for each satellite. Some kind of an FTA set-up.

Here is my plan:
* use of standard Directv lnbs, dual output
* combine with two 4x1 switches (Will any FTA switch also work for Directv ? e.g. DISEqC 2x1 and 4x1 ?)
* run two cables to the dual receiver HR24

I will have a long cable run of nearly 200 feet. Is there a chance to just have one cable and split it at the receiver ?
e.g. Directv 2 Way Splitter Green Label MSPLIT2R1

Thanks, Wolfgang

200 ft is a long run here in the US. I suspect it will be a limiting factor for you. You may need to use RG11 cable instead of the usual RG6.

200 feet really isn't all that bad unless its SWM which then it's pushing the limits without an amp. Anything over 250 foot I use a PI29 instead of the PI21 but it don't sound like a SWM set up is even possible with what the OP is trying to achieve

yes, I use RG11 only. It works fine on that long run for FTA C-band and Dishnetwork (DP plus) without amp or booster.

SWM ?
PI29 instead of the PI21 ? no idea ! please assist.
thanks !

A swm setup uses one cable from the dish and allows multiple receivers run from it. You can't do that with a multiple dish setup.

It can, but not easily, you need a swm8 or swm16 im doing testing on a 3dish install now.

That's news from the last I heard. It could be good news for vixens!

I have never seen anyone successfully put together a three-dish system for DirecTV HD. The DirecTV LNBs for the satellites at 99 and 103 have to support Ka frequencies not the Ku that the traditional DirecTV LNBs support, and there are no DirecTV single-satellite Ka LNBs. Additionally the input to the SWM8/16 multiswitches requires the 99 and 101 signals to be delivered together over the same cables, with the signals being separated inside the LNB.
If you can make it work, please tell us how!!

ok, it's clear: I'll need one or even 3 Ka/Ku lnb

I'll gonna start a new threat with a new headline: "3 LNB set-up with 9 foot dish"

Thanks everyone for teaching me.

3 LNB set-up with 9 foot dish: 99W, 101W, 103W

I would like to do a three LNB set-up for 99W, 101W and 103W.
Due to my location I will have to use a 9 foot offset dish together with a 3sat Ka/Ku LNB.

Q: Do all these three satellites require a Ka/ku LNB?
Q: what is the difference between these two lnbs in the pictures (enclosed) ? ---> 4 outputs vs one output plus splitter
Q: Is there any satellite left for the old/regular Ku circular Lnbs ? I assume the 101W in the center of the 3in1 SWM Lnb in the picture is still Ku circular.
Q: Due to the larger size of the dish the 3in1 SWM Lnb might be too close together and I would need larger spacing. Any idea how to combine 3 separate lnbs ?

Thanks !

101 is Ku and uses a standard DirecTV LNB (circular polarization). 99 and 103 are Ka.

4 output is a legacy lnb, 1 output is swm. Theres alot of threads describing how each work, but since your using a 9' dish, not many people are going to be able to assist with settings or whatnot. I can tell you that the two lnbs you posted pick up 99/101/103. There is a different lnb that does all 5. But the 110 is pretty worthless. However 119 is needed for spanish programming. You may want that, im not sure where you are located. And for legal reasons i dont want to know. Im simply trying to assist in your setting up dtv using a 9' dish :)

What i would recommend is using the 4 output lnb and a swm8 multiswitch. You may also need a polarity locker or amp, i seem to recall you stating your dish was 200+ ft from your home. Swm doesnt work well over those distances.

That said, if you run your 4 lines into a polarity locker, then into a swm8 (at the point of your home) the swm would only travel the length of from the switch to the tv. You put that green splitter in the pic of the second lnb on the swm8 multiswitch then run one line to each tv. Use the lnb in pic1.

Maybe use rg11..

If he is uses a swm8 switch as you recommend, what's the need for the splitter?

vixens, I don't know if using a 9 ft dish will work. You may not be able to find a focus point for three satellites. Maybe with them being so closely spaced it's possible, but it won't be easy. Good luck though. Let us know how it goes.

twizt3dkitty Thank you.

1. yes I am planing to use RG11 for such long run. I have the same distance for FTA and Dish Pro; works fine.
2. good to learn that SWM does not travel long runs well. So I will go with Legacy.

Here is what I learned meanwhile:
One receiver H24 or HR24 set up:

#1
H24/200 receiver
Slim Dish
1- SL3K4NR0-01 Green label/SWM LNB with 1 output
1- Power Inserter at receiver: SWM-PI21R1-03 (green label)

Receiver setup:
Dish Type 17:Slimline-3S(SWM)
Switch type 01:SWM

#2
H24/200 receiver
Slim Dish

1- SL3K4NR0-02 white label LNB with 4 outputs

1- B Band convert at receiver =BBC Module SUP-2400 (one only, not 2)

Receiver setup:
Dish Type 03:Slimline-3
Switch type 02:Multiswitch

Please tell me if there are any parts missing.
Thanks !
