Unplug the box for a few seconds. Plug it in. Take a walk for an hour or so. I am assuming that you don't have 6.20 version.

I unplugged it for 1 hour.. its version 5.6 or 5.8, plugged it back in and nothing... do you have to have the phone line connected?

No, I don't think you can force it in version 5.68. (You can in 6.10.)
Just make sure to leave it in stand-by mode overnight.
No, the phone line doesn't have to be connected for the update to occur.

Just press the ON/OFF button on the remote or on the box itself
Just don't unplug it!
