Future of C-band Radio Content Distribution

You post like a troll.
Jesus Christ. Why is it that any time a differing opinion is posted on the internet the word 'troll' is always thrown around? I'm offering a different point of view outside of the c-band bubble. That is all.

I having nothing against the FTA/C-band/Ka-band satellite hobby or those who are invested into it, I'm offering a differing opinion on how wonderful things are in world of cellular data because of c-band. I am sorry if your loss is my gain, but that's the world we live in.

All of these things are true, and I agree. I just don't appreciate those (not you) who disparage others for a hobby they enjoy, even if it is a niche or in decline. I have a friend who enjoys model railroading and refinishing brass model train cars. That's a niche hobby and I would never insult his hobby even though I don't enjoy it or care for it. And his hobby is definitely a small group of people and in decline.

1) I am not disparaging you or anyone
2) Model trains aren't be phased out of advancements in technology that the vast majority of American's will be taking advantage of. C-band frequencies previously being used for satellite will have a huge positive impact on many more as re-farmed cellular assets that they did as satellite.

I never said anything inflammatory about it or anyone that patriciates in it. I am providing an alterative view point and opinion.

All I said it it's a niche and dying hobby which it is and always has been, and the results of c-band satellite going away are going to benefit many more people that it staying around. You can't keep something around and on life support because 0.0001% of the population participates in something.

I personally would rather that the 3.7 GHz spectrum be in use by a ton of people and being taken advantage of, I don't care if it's in use by satellites, in use by cellular or by something else. Having that frequency used and enhancing the life of millions of American's is all I really want to see done with it. And that's not happening anymore with satellite. There is no point keeping it around for a handful of hobbyists (sorry if that's trolling, being inflammatory, whatever) when it can be put to better use positively impacting many more people.

In a short time, Verizon has already amassed over 5 million 5G home internet subscribers thanks to c-band. Are there even 5 million BUD hobbyists around anymore?

Oh, I think there's a pretty strong guarantee that in a few years we will NOT be able to DVR like we do today.

Sadly I believe you are correct. OTA DVR's are on their last legs thanks to ATSC 3.0's DRM, and I suspect by this time next year Spectrum's high split upgrades will have hit our area and killed off my TiVo once and for all.

We are also going to be getting Plum Cases for emergency response sometime in 2026, I do not know if these will have c-band capabilities, but if they do, that could be potentially life saving.

Make sure you're investing in the models that have Starlink capability plus 5G so you aren't left out in the cold. When Helene hit our area Spectrum, AT&T DSL, and all of the cell towers lost power and everything went out for days. They've since invested in the Plum cases with Starlink integration.

Thanks, but unfortunately that's out of my hands. I'm a lowly GS11 in Local IT for my duty station with no real authority to do anything or decision making abilities. I'll just be responsible for storage and deployment. Procurement will be done on an Agency level based on contracts, there was talk we might have them provided to us by DoD or some other agency, but this stuff changes so often it's hard to keep track.
