Made my move to the Carolinas, now how do I make a hole for the pole of my 12 foot unimesh? I made it 2 foot deep by 2 foot around, but the clay and granite brought me to a halt after that.I tried water to soften the ground, but it did not help. Do you think if I put the pole two feet down in concrete then make a 2x2 pad on the suface it will stay put?I did manage to get the bottom of the hole wider than the top. This ground is already concrete. Not many thing I miss from Florida other than the sand!

Hehe, been there done that. I put a 12' in a hole like that, when you're digging in rock, sometimes you just have to give in and pour the hole full of concrete. I'd like to have a hole deeper than that, but if thats all you can do without blasting, it should hold it. Just let it set a day or two before you start putting on the dish.

Sorry it took so long to respond,I have no internet at the new house. According to AT@T I do. Hopefully they will find the right house tomorrow. For now it is my sprint card. Back to the subject, the clay is so hard it will be like pouring concrete into concrete and with the bottom bigger than the top I think it will be fine. I found a guy next door with a welder and made my pole complete with two pieces of angle to keep it from turning.I have the pole in the ground and tied up level so tomorow I will add the concrete and get it perfectl level.Next post will be in the C-band section complete with pictures! 12 Foot unimesh coming up.

Hi Turbo,
Your avatar looks like a cousin of the bird next door. We've got a lot of them around here in the swampy woodlands near the lake.
:)

Yep , looks the same. Almost never saw one but always heard their call. That one just landed in the yard one morning close enough for me to grab the camera. They're much bigger than I thought. I saw him again yesterday but he flew soon as he saw me outside.

I always dig my holes with an old coat hanger ;) Or we just put the dish on pontoons and tie it down. I tried a pirogue but it flipped over then Boudreaux and Thibodeaux stole it.

Same with my old Florida place, you could dig the hole with your sneaker, but don't go to deep or you will hit water.
